I have a 7222 masquerading as a later production one, when LGB went bust I ordered the later production version and the shop took my money then sat on it two weeks before trying to sell me the 7222 at a higher price as the other one was sold out! After pointing out some pertinent parts of retail law I took the 7222 at the same price rather than getting into a legal wrangle. The main identification features are the tank side steps differ, the motion bracket is inboard of the drop link on 7222 and outside it on the others and the front step is plated over underneath the smokebox on 7222. As the LGB one is a compromise in length between the two types that doesn't matter. There are two distinct boiler top variants in how the fittings are arranged but without a photo I doubt there are many who would know
Hm interesting, as this link is Wikilies I wonder. I have certainly heard that 7222 went to Norway and was repatriated. But let us not worry too much over this, thankfully she us still with us.
I guess that I need to get my Pics together side by side. Of course 7222 has been backdated to original condition. But was not so when LGB did their First Model of it. Plus when you spend time looking at them at Wernigerode there are so many differences. These reflect Rebuilds at Workshops both before and after the Wall came down. Plus differences since recent Rebuilds have happened, plus I do not doubt different Crews Working on them at each Rebuild. I doubt that even 2 of them are exactly the same!
So perhaps I could have got that one at Glendale and made some minor changes, renumber and got a different one my third?
But lets not be greedy.

Well I my pleased to see that my original post has created some interest & Discussion on here, when I re-started my G scale interest a few weeks back I was quite surprised to see that the forums did not seem to be nearly as busy as they once were 3 or so years ago.

I quite agree Steve, it is certainly true that at times it almost looks like it is impossible to get any interest going. Then another subject comes up anad you think whaaaa? Just I giess we are an eclectic bunch that get our fires burning by the oddest things.

The English language guidebook from the HSB shop concurs with this too so unless it's one of those widespread false stories every subsequent author quotes I'd say the balance supports the story that 7222 never left, It would be odd to scrap two but still send one back.As to greedy Jon, they have 17 aspiring to that is just being faithful to the prototype!

You might tfind the naswer to that on the German Harzbahn forum with time and google translate

Only going by the majority of info I have as I did research it a bit , like anything else thare are certain stories that get repeated so often because everyone uses the same book as their original source. (We have one at Salisbury where the vast majority of books state a certain building is the old box yet it never was and I work with people who remember it`s original purpose as they worked with people who remember it from when they started), The best argument for it is the official dual language guide from the HSB carrying it as you`d expect they know the history. As with anything it would really need pictures to prove it was over there and they are rare to non existant due to the war and the short timeframe.

Paul, there are quite a few there that are my bread n butter too. Certainly the one that I wish I could read fluently is the Dirk Endish Double Tome. I do occasionally take a pic of a Page and get the iPhone to Translate for me. But I think that app went pop with an iPhone upgrade. Bloody Apple are getting to be as bad as Windows with their upgrade cons. I have a 3 Year old Apple Portable that will not speak to my 8 Month old Printer. No Downloade Drivers for it neither. Grrr Computers! Rant over.

Which of that lot will be best for pictorial references for us fettling the 'Shades' layout?? - If English text, so much the better.
The only other good picture source seems to be Stockers holiday snaps on here! 
Does anyone have decent pictures of Brocken station building? - Especially after shots of what is inside the platform-side rooms..
I want to embellish the building on the layout.

The two Middleton Press books are good English texts for an overview and the dual language guidebook from the HSB shop which can be found on ebay regularly, (I`ll have to check the specific title later)
Obviously there is a lot of good in several of them but to pick a top few in order for photos,
1 For colour pictures of the modern railway the Dampflok-Paradies Harz is probably the easiest to find at a good price around £20
2 The Eisenbahn Kurier Special 105 ‘125 Jahre Schmalspurbahnen im Harz’ is also very good with a mix of colour and b&w and I picked it up for £8 incl post on ebay.
3 The Eisenbahn Kurier Bildarchiv ‘20 Jahre Harzer Schmalspurbahnen’ is also a good colour reference. Loads on ebay
4 Schmalspur Dampflokomotiven (TOSA) is also good for the DR days although not exclusively HSB.
I haven’t seen any interior pictures of the Brocken buildings I’m afraid.
I`ve highlighted them in blue, don`t bother with the big book on the left with and X on it as it`s covered well in much cheaper books. The transpress double volume in the centre `Die Harzer Schmalspurbahn` is the best for drawings and plans of assorted things but not fully comprehensive. Avoid the thin white book `Strecken & Bahnhofe Schmalspurbahn Im Harz` as it`s covered better, bigger and cheaper in the aforementioned Transpress book.
