IP Freelance Coaches

Over the past month I have been building these IP engineering freelance coaches. I'm pretty pleased with how they have turned out. There was a bit of a debate on the colour scheme though, we didn't know whether to go varnish or paint. In the end it was between blue and cream or varnished.......as we have no other wooden coaches we went for the varnished look! Inspired by a BR Gresley coach, they are teak with a pine overlay. I think they look rather smart.

I?ll post some pictures or maybe a video of them running during their official test runs!

im not surprised hes satisfied..beautifull rake ..

Very smart. I think the contrast between the wood panelling and the lighter framing works really well. Reminiscent of the Talyllyn but more subtle!.

They look absolutely 'right' which means they are right!
Are the wheelsets different from a couple of years ago?
I ask because one of my IP wagons ran perfectly for 18 months but then developed a short and needs a 'technical adjustment'.

Thanks for all the great comments guys!

I don't think they have Keith. I bought my first IP kit (Atlantic observation) at the Elsecar show in 2010 (Though only recently finished!), the wheelsets look the same to me! I've had a couple of problems with the wheels from IP, one of the wheels wasn't sitting straight on the axle (on a previous project) so when the coach went down the track it was shaking like a nervous wreck!

Beautiful rake. Just about to start these myself - well the guards van first which is now well under way. I've had the kit for well over a 12 month but your rake has provided the stimulation that I obviously needed. I will pick up the 2 comp carriage kits from Steve's Exhibition during our Welshpool and LF visit next weekend. Let's hope the weather is better this year.

Can I ask where you acquired the door handles?

Cheers.

Fabulous looking rake of coaches Scott, although the moggy doesn't seem too impressed....

Hi Roy, Thanks for the comments. They are a nice coach to build and I enjoyed building them very much. The door handles should be included with the kit, In with the nails for the running boards. If you haven?t got them in the kit then tell Ivan at the show and he'll give you some I'm sure. I painted mine in 'Brass' paint, something a little different. It was interesting to see the differences in the three kits. I bought them all at the same time but on two the door vents are wood and on the other they are white metal castings. One came with all the parts still in the wood needed to be cut out, one came with all the parts but the cut outs needed removing and one came needing no preparation work.
