Well, first, thanks VM for all the replies. Anyone who knows me knows that I am "careful" with money. I tried anyway to get them going. I have an old clunker charger from MAPLINS and I set them in there. After a while, I checked the batteries individually across the Delta V charger, the charging light now came on. All are now charged. The question is, are they any good? I will find out.

ge_rik, many thanks for the link, if these batteries bail, I will be ordering the AA versions of these.

Progress (now I have remembered how to use YouTube):

1) Cab structure complete. With euro style cab brow,
2) Wiring complete. requires tidying.
3) Batteries fully charged. Loco ran on blocks for 4 hours yesterday with no drama. Still charged so will run until discharge then recharge,
4) Lamp in spotlights replaced with warm white LED
5) Sound is an ITT soundboard of a conveyor in a loop. It has no "engine" so all I needed was something to sound like a TM blower really. I made the speaker box and glued the speaker in. It sounds really carp though so I will have to investigate.

Still plenty to do!

Well, due to me not having a clue about computer settings, I cant see the little flick I posted above. I dont know if anyone else can, but heres a few stills:

Wiring. No sniggering! Happy to report no blue smoke yet. The speaker is the white homemade box to the very left. I think it will be replaced at some point. No idea with what. Another control desk will go diagonally opposite to the three switches, but without switches. Not sure how to fit that out yet.

After some protracted rescearch, including all sorts of lunatics camouflaging their SUVs to go and collect the kids from school, I have painted the body of the loco. Now it requires glazing and any other detail bits I can think of. Buffer beams require painting too and the doors need fitting. I may exchange the coupling for a multi height jobbie <thinking> .

I am actually pleased with the result, and even better, the chassis runs as sweet as a nut. It also need weathering. Its too clean.

Photos are of the body just dropped onto the chassis.

I think they represent the spinney-round "wipers" as found on ships and boats?

Kent Screens. Used on ship's bridge windows, but also on locomotives and rail transport.

Thank you. Its a sort of rotary windscreen wiper, Dan. Used by shipping and I think, some military vehicles, in the 1950s and 60s. I dont think they use them now as they were troublesome and of course they restricted the view. They were also fitted to at least two of British Railways diesel locos in the 1960s, D1038 Western Soveriegn and D1006 Western Stalwart. They were soon removed so pictures of them so fitted are rare. Heres a link to a photo of Western Stalwart, predictably, the website is twitchy about copyright, hence the link:


I put em on the loco because I thought they would look a bit different, also I tried to make a conventional wiper and failed misreably! :D:D

Interesting. They look like an designer's wet dream.....:rofl:
