Ill fated locomotive project

I have now located replacement rear glazing and fitted it. For interest, the pivot screw is accessed through the sand dome. The dome top cover is an interference fit and is able to be removed to drop the drive unit.

Not shown in the previous photographs of the drive unit I have now fabricated a removable cover to limit foreign objects getting into the gear train (seen open in the said photographs).

Also, the smokestack shown in the previous photographs is not ideal as it seems a little anaemic but was all that was left of once what was a large collection of spares. I did have a more robust chimney planned but it was cannibalised to complete the recent Hudson project.

The owner has now succeeded in programming the decoder with some improvement still to come with finetuning the CV's. I fitted a late release Massoth programmable XLS decoder but when loading the steam sound programme, all sounds except chuff could be programmed. Oddly, the programme would sound an RPM increase with diesel and electric sounds loaded to the decoder however, no chuff could be programmed. Several Massoth steam downloads were tried with each unable to operate the chuff with motor increase.

An email to Massoth suggested that even though these are newly released decoders a firmware update was needed prior loading a soundfile. Once updated the software loaded successfully. The sound profile currently fitted for test is the Mikado sound, although I feel the mogul profile may be more suitable. The video is just a test loading to verify that sounds may be installed to the decoder after the update was accomplished.

Another fine bash accomplished!
