I am just starting my layout, would like to introduce sensors to stop the train at a station automatically. Only using an analogue set up, any recommendations for the sensors to use.
You can do this with a magnet under the loco, and a reed switch in the track.
If you are prepared to have a RC loco, then there is a system which can give you stop after a sensor, a shuttle (stop then return) or station-stop (stop then continue).

I have over the years posted links to my Garden Railway portable Automatic Railway that has been on YouTube for some years now.
