Help with switching relay for signal

Hi Folks,

Needing a bit of help with this relay (see photo). It's supposed to be switching out 12V to a red/green LED signal but there's no voltage on the out (three terminals on the right). The 'R' & 'G' light up on the board initially then the 'G' switches off after 10 seconds with an audible click.Relay.JPG
 
The relay contacts are isolated from the control side of the board..

Put 12V into the common of the three connections on the right-hand-side and it will be switched to either of the other two contacts.
You will need a suitable series resistor (hint:you can use one on the input) for your LEDs.

Hi Phil, thanks for getting back . . . . Not quite clear what you mean: Do I put the 12V +ve into the common (central contact of the three)??

The two LED ends marked Gnd (ground) go to the negative of your 12V supply.

Does that help?

Well that will only light the diodes when the supply on the left is on.

I don't see how you are triggering the circuit?

I assume 'something switches the 12V on the left On, which causes the relay to switch for a certain time?
You will need power on the right hand side all the time, else when the left supply goes off, the lights will go out.

I am collecting food atm..
I will draw another circuit later.

The arrangement is that when the circuit is energised the red signal (LED1) comes on then goes off after an adjustable period (small pot) and the green signal (LED2) comes on and stays on while the circuit is energised.
 
But that only gives you one red-green cycle.

I would have expected you would want either a red or green most of the time, and something to trigger the change?

Mmmm. . . . Yes you have a point:pensive:. Not sure how to achieve that. Originally I was just looking for something my grandson could operate and frustrate my train movements!!

A switch on the +12V will work
Switch off relay de-energised; switch on relay energised; relay cycles, switch off relay de-energised switch on relay energised; relay cycles and so on.
Only down side is that the green light will not be on all the time it will turn off when power is removed.

Forget the relay...

Just wire a two-way switch, and grandson can operate the light directly..
