Help on POLA 1946 Turntable

After reading the instructions on the Faller website (search for item No. 331945) with the "Test - "RC" switch in the "Test" position the motor should start running when the "Ein" - "Aus" switch is in the "Ein" position.

There is a fuse on the circuit board that could be checked but it is probably good because the light comes on.

Are you sure there is nothing physically jamming the works?

Yeah tried the test. The light comes on but the motor doesnt spin when on “Ein”

I haven’t put together the set. I just opened the electric portion to test if it works or not and so far it doesnt.

There is a spring on the motor that was loose And I placed it back the same as it was on the other side, I’m wondering if this is the culprit?
What does this spring do? Is there a way for me to test the motor somehow with a multimeter?

I'm fairly certain the springs are contacts for the motors brushes. And, yes that would explain why the motor would not run. Putting it back like the other side was the correct thing to do. It looks like the nearest contact/solder tab got severely mangled somehow and the brush on that side may be damaged.

The best way to test the motor without possibly damaging anything else is to unsolder the motor wires from the circuit board (keep track of which pins the yellow and brown are on) and test it with a 9V battery or the DC output of your transformer. Don't try this without disconnecting the motor from the circuit board. You don't want to feed voltage backwards into the circuit board. Also, don't turn the transformer up all the way if that's what you use. I think I see a 12V rating on the motor label. I'm pretty sure it is a DC motor but the label should say AC or DC. If it is 12V DC, it should run with a 9V battery.

You may be able to get a replacement motor from Faller if that is indeed the problem. Or you may even find one or a suitable replacement elsewhere with all the information on the motor label. Manufacturer part no.?, 12V?, 0.35A, 5000 rpm, etc.

Another way to test the motor is with a test meter. You want continuity and if you get a positive result when touching both motor terminals the motor should be ok. But my suggestion would be to return the thing, they are nit worth the hassle. If you need to turn locomotives and you have the space put in a wye.
 
oh dear
if the spring was loose
then, there is a good chance the brush may have been lost
hopefully too there is a similar brass piece under the spring on both sides
without a brush, the motor wont work.
 
The motor is a stock one manufactured by Bühler Motor. The Bühler part no. is 1.16.011.532. You can see it listed on the second line here: Stock Service.

Wow! I found one distributor in the USA that lists a price for this motor - $130! I'd check with Pola/Faller for a replacement!

Looks like the metal tab and the end of the brush spring are both bent. I would straighten, and then disconnect the spring and look inside for the brush. That would quickly answer a few questions.

Also, perhaps you can find a replacement brush if indeed your issue is a missing brush.
