Hi, I have noticed that most requests unearth the thing that is required. So in the best tradition I thought that I would try here. I have looked in Ebay to no avail.

I am looking for one of the Combined Hammant & Morgan Boxes with Volt and Ammeter on it. I have a need to occasionally Test outMotors and one of these looks like it may fit the bill. So if you need to make some space and have one. I am interested.

However I have seen on Ebay Combined Digital ones that look OK. But as ever from China with little information on them. I guess I would need one that measure up to around 25 Volts and About 3 or 4 Amps Max. Though to be fair it would predominantly just be Testing Single Motors to check them out for Compatibility in double Locomotives. Any suggestions here may negate my need for the H&M thing.

I have one of these installed in the traction power supply for my tramway, I checked it with a Fluke multimeter and its accurate... Is it the sort of thing you are after?

Its really an installed multimeter to tell me if there is a short....
 
Not quite what you asked for, but I use one of these for all my workbench electronics work, loco testing, DCC install proofing etc:

They go on offer from time to time - I reckon I paid about half the price shown.

As well as the metering you can vary the voltage and limit the current. Goes up to 30V at 2.5A. In the past I've used it ( with a DPDT switch) as a DC controller for anything from Z to G!

I reckon if it draws more than this can supply (single loco on rollers) then there is definitely something wrong!

Also used it for the shuttle I threw together for a Christmas fair beginning of December.. Could use the fixed 12v to power the shuttle electronics, and the variable O/P for the track power. - There is a fixed 5V O/P as well.

I did not pay anything like that either! ;)

I bought a PSU from Maplins many years ago. Does 0 - 20v @5A & has display on the screen showing volts & amps. They sometimes have them on offer.

Re this article, http://www.trainelectronics.com/Meter_HF/index.htm, have two sets of these, one as per the article for analogue, and another with a few additional components for DCC use.

As for accuracy they are within a gnat's whisker as per the readings on my all singing and dancing Digital Multi Meter.

Query though, do I just wire it up to the leads from my Controller (analogue for Testing) to my Test Track? No complications other than Just 2 wires. Does not indicate anything on the Sales Guff.

The meter I have has 4 wires, 2 thin ones that are connected in parallel to measure Voltage and 2 heavy wires that go in series on the positive side of the load. The one I bought via eBay came with a wiring diagram....

The wiring diagram is enclosed with the meter, current shut is built in, from memory these have 3 wires, grd, supply +, Load + for the current and the 2 small ones do the voltage, grd and + volts
 
I have just ordered one of the Ebay offerings that Saprky suggested, at just over £5 post free appears to be a no brainer. Will report when it is set up. Thanks a lot guys.
