I'm getting the picture re the kids 'playhouse'..... gently curving siding off the mainline, through a tastefully designed 'hole in the wall', and a lot of storage tracks in the shed for ready made up trains. Cunning.

I always enjoy looking at these photos. A fantastic railway, with lots of effort put into the little details, makes it look real. I love the level crossing photos! This to me, is the definition of a Garden Railway!

Despite some good train running weather almost every day since the new year train running has been limited due to other holiday activity. So it wasn't until the 8th day of the new year that Manawanui got to open services for the year.

It was a nice warm day so visible steam is limited...but it was there.

A spot not normally seen on "film", Manawanui at the northern most point in the railway.

Not the best picture but nice to get some sun into the log loading area.

The 10th saw Otto still under acceptance trials. And me getting the hang of settling the burner. Goods service today

Heading into the sawmill tunnel.

Hoping for more running in the sun, but might need someone to slow 2015 down. I'm sure the 2015 is going faster than 2014

Great summer day in sunny Tawa and this was the view from my seat at the dinner table

To warm to eat inside but then inside doesn't have the same view

Hopefully there will be more evenings like this

JR is the little loco battery or track powered, I have one the same that i want to battery power and fit Revo to and

John's pictures certainly 'gladden the heart' on these cold winter days..

Either something about the light, or the (almost) British vegetation, not sure.. Whatever, one of the most picturesque lines we see featured, I reckon??

Yes the little LGB O&K steam outline loco is battery powered.  Well actually the train load of Binnie skips is battery powered, 3xAA in each of the last 3 skips, on/off switch and charging socket in the 2nd skip and Revolution receiver in the first skip.  Jonny, another of the LGB field railway loco`s is battery powered, in Jonny`s case the Revolution receiver is on board and batteries in the first wagon.  Hope that helps.

A question on line construction please John. A few pictures back, (reply#802) as the line drops down under the timber viaduct through the level crossing, the embankment looks like it may be concrete with a nice covering of moss.
As I have a cutting that is going to need a fair bit of work doing on it this summer I was just interested.

Hi Alan. The various cuttings are faced with "Hypertufa" which is a 1:1:1 of cement, peat moss, sand or some form of aggregate with water added to make a moist mouldable mix. Sometimes I vary it with 2 cement, 2 peat moss, 1 sand and 1 crushed lime sand. In some recent batches, around the log hauler up at Punga Cliffs I scraped moss of some bricks elsewhere in the manor and then pressed that into the surface of the wet/damp Hypertufa. Some survives some dies, esspecially over summer but I feel enough spores are deposited that come damper weather a good crop of moss get hold quickly, sort of giving Mother Nature a hand Hope that helps.

Just caught up on this thread from Christmas onwards. Brilliant stuff John. Liking the new body ideas for Otto. You're a braver man than me sir. I'm just gonna change the nameplates and add a crew on mine.
