H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

When I think that over 20 years ago, someone offered me a job in NZ. :-\

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Meanwhile, in the H&MGR workshops the long awaited sawmill is quickly being built...well quick for me which is slow for everyone else ??? Yesterday I did a bit of rework to give just a little more room our on the railway where it will sit when in place. Due to the level of detail, and due to falling apple bombs, the sawmill will live inside when the railway is not operating. (It will be getting a roof...all in good time :D )
So aerial view...

Of course one can't put a train out for photo without at least some running to ensure everything is still working. You probably won't spot it but there is a little bit of new planting around as well. ;)

Heavenly, as is usual John. Sawmill progress looks mighty fine

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Delightful pictures :D

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

That's going to be a great installation John

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

??? Solution for the Apple Bombs..... cut down the tree. It should provide a lifetime supply for your new mill. .... and no apple tree means no wasps buzzing about! :-\

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Great photos John and love the sawmill which I have been following. Looks incredible.

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

So that´s where the sawmill is going :D ;) ;D

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

The Sawmill, if all goes according to what is loosely called a "plan", will be stored when the H&MGR is not active on a small indoor testing layout come diorama once I sell off the current S scale layout which fills the "free" indoor space ;) It won't be to the same standard as the Kent and North Wales Light Railway though ???

As for the apple trees (we have two) meeting Mr Chainsaw - no way - I like my apples and my trees I do. Falling apples and cleaning up leaves are worth the benefits they give. :D

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

I´ve been looking at the tram engine over the last couple of post, covetingly. Could you tell us a bit more about it? Sorry, if you done this before? :-\

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

The tram Engine is a rather special project, done as a joint venture with Malcolm (PBMM) to his design. Malcolm sent me out some patterns and most of the wood. The framing is K&S channel which the wood slots into. So while it's mostly my handiwork all credit for the design and step by step guidance goes to Malcolm. There where many Skype calls during the built!

Here is one side part way through assembly...

and with the roof framing done.

It's runs on an Aristo-craft 29351 “Power Truck” motor block fitted into the styrene underframe.

I'm hoping that in the future I may remount the body on some form of live steamer, I just need to find the right candidate at the right price!

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

Nice work !

Re: H&MGR, a family railway in NZ

I figure that any little RH or Accucraft engine would do the job for the tram car. You might even use wood strips to line the boiler 8)

But I really think your wooden tramcar has a special charm. I´ll have to see what I can do. :-\

There was a young lady from Hyde, who ate forty apples and died,
The apples fermented, inside the lamented,
And made cider, inside her insides.

Boom, boom!

Nice pics (and tram) as always John.
