I love seeing overgrown track, and hope mine will be in parts one day! Any nice pics? Yes slightly odd request but aren't we all a bit on here? Just looked at the Kiwi contributer which set my mind going... over to you!

To attract moss onto your track, paint the sleepers with plain yogurt.

Or, if no-one is looking, you could wee on the railway....

I wish moss would grow on my layout, but i have laid it into grit about 2 inch thick, so any damp just drains away............ tutt tutt tutt.

Buy some 'BABYS TEARS' form a local garden centre, its a tiny leaved low growing plant, it is VERY prolific and spreads like wildfire, keep it moist but not overwatered,

but be warned it does spread everywhere so you need to remove it ASAP when it spreads to no required areas!!

At our old address 1 single 6" plant grew every where including neighbours gardens in a couple of seasons

Another good plant is Mind Your Own Buisness, i kid you not, that is its real name, no flowers on this one, just very low evergreen ground cover, likes to be kept damp, spreads fairly quickly.

Baby's Tears used to grow through my track on the old WGLR. Ripped up now, but it may make a re-appearance.

Might not call these nice pics, the dry spell (until recently) killed off most of the moss, but ivy seems to have taken over and also, an alpine or rockery plant has spread itself around the entire line (apart from bridges, trestle and tunnels of course!).

Where the Ivy came from (via planting cuttings) and near where the alpine came from - spread itself (or its seeds) in true railway fashion.

Pictures of plant spread in next post if my link doesn't time out again.

I find that you don't need to try too hard. Turn your back for 5 minutes in spring and something's grown up in the tracks - dandelions, foxgloves, birch trees (well 3 inch high ones - but they get bigger very quickly)
