Greetings from SE Arizona

Welcome to the forum Slim.

Our forum comprises of mostly Britons modelling UK and European prototypes, but we do have some North American members here, as well as others from around the world.

I'm sure someone here will have some common ground with you....

Welcome to the forum Slim, building cars can be a big job. I have a smaller European one on the go just now and another in planning. I tend to use plastic card but on another vehicle project I have used used plastic coated foamboard. I have also used thin wood as well plus for a Railcar Coffee Stirers on an inside frame made of thin wood siding. So there are many options to choose from, but do not forget the rivets! Pins can be inserted into small drilled holes. You can see that I am in the process if fitting rivets.image.jpg

Hi Slim and welcome. I’m one of the Brits living in the US. 1900’ up a mountain in North Georgia.

I’m sure you’ll get a lot of advice and help. The group like photos by the way.

If you need help translating the UK based comments, don’t hesitate to ask!

Hi Slim, and Welcome to the Forum! Like you, I model in 1:20.3, 3ft narrow gauge, but in my case it's the Isle of Man Railway. They had much smaller box vans, cattle wagons and opens, which I've modelled using 1/32" plywood, or Medium Density Fibreboard. Here they are, in and amongst some RTR and kit-builds...

Some! You wouldn't believe how many.

Nice to have you along @Arizona Slim and a hello from a tiny land in Europe. Recently retired? There is no way you will have enough time to build a railway. :D Just joking, we all look forward to seeing pictures of your builds. There is no end of information and help here so feel free to ask any questions, we all want to help.
Enjoy yourself.

Welcome Slim, from the West Well Lumber Co. There are a few around in the UK, who are partial to a bit of 1:20.3/Fn3. Biggest things you can run on 45 mm gauge track, that's why I love them. Not F scale std gauge mind you, they are waay too big ! I run outddoors both battery power and live steam, D&RGW & logging themed. While I'm not a scratch builder I have made up a few Hartford and Rio Grande models laser cut kits. Both makers sadly now gone, however, they do sometimes show up on dealer and auction sites. Ozark miniatures have resurected some of the Hartford range and do a fine selection of detailing parts for scratch building projects. I used to be involved in hand built model race car production a few years back. Look forward to seeing some of your work on here. Max

Logging roster, how did the British buildings get in there ? Climax, Mallet and Shay, all RC/Battery/sound. Shay's battery car fitted with speedometer ! All here 1:20.3.

I love the Hobart Estates caboose, it's one of my favorites!

Welcome aboard Slim.

I love the Hobart Estates caboose, it's one of my favorites!
Yes, it is a distinctive addition to the retinue of stock. The kit it is built from, if you are unfamilar, goes together just like a full size caboose. The base frame and full body interior framing all fits together like a Chinese puzzle. These parts carefully slotted and milled to tight tolerances. The cladding goes on top and you can add interior details like the stove. All doors slide or are hinged. The sprung trucks, with wood bolsters, are a work of art. I get all my lettering from G Scale Graphics in Colorado ready made up to spec'. Max
