GP 38 Diesel, Maine Central

Have you tried emailing Hans at Gold Coast Station? He has lots of G scale stuff in his two shops. I had a nice chat with him and bought a few items some years ago when I was on holiday in California.

USA Trains has wonderful detail and the running gear is very reliable. I once had one of their GP7/9's in Union Pacific livery and also an A and B unit in Boston and Maine livery. I sold them because most of my other rolling stock is LGB and Bachmann. The difference in scales was very noticeable (1:22 versus 1:29 or so?). I replaced the three units with an A and B LGB F7 set with sound and never looked back. The sound on the LGB is built in to the B unit and connects to the A unit with cables and is quite realistic.
I am informed that getting sound on a USA Trains locomotive is much more expensive than the LGB on my A B units. My model RR is straight DC. I have 12 locomotives which would have to be converted to DCC or some other controls to go to better controls. These are just some points that I discovered.

Yes, if you order USAT locos with the optional sound, you pay a lot for a Phoenix sound system and you are still not DCC.

You can add DCC to USAT locos easy for $200 yourself, and if you don't need constant lighting, you can install it almost as fast as you can open the shell.

All that notwithstanding, it is a very accurate 1:29 scale, which clearly did not look right next to your LGB F7's which are 1:22 and 1:26 depending on which dimension you look at.
