Gas charging adaptor

I posted about problems with my gas charging adaptor:

I have now investigated both of these adaptors, and what I have found is that the top and bottom fittings are just pressed in to the tube (interference fit) and with the split the pressed in part come out quite easily, hopefully the photos will explain thing better:

The split on this one is the "bottom" , on the can end of the adaptor

This one is split at the "top" the part that goes to the loco filler.

My plan is to clean and solder the parts back into the tube, which should repair and solve the issues. I will report on my progress.

So the 'fit' is causing the split?

Not made by Bachmann, by any chance? :wondering:

It's more likely that the split was caused by sideways movement when pushing down whilst refuelling. There must be a reason that they're not one piece in the first place, so be careful!

I have at least 4 of the brass gas adapters, some with threads, some without. Every one of them has failed to perform at one time or another.
At least 20 years ago, a local member in our group made these adaptors on his mill and sold them for a pittance!
They have NO MOVING PARTS. They simply press fit to the Asian style gas can. You cannot wear them out; you can only lose them.
If interested, send me a PM and I'll share more information.
