There is a TV series in the UK called Train Truckers, which shows the men and vehicles that move railway rolling stock by road.

Here is my G Scale version, with my Hui-Na RC Mercedes Actros and low loader trailer....

I appreciate that forum members will model all sorts of prototypes (so will want very different types of road vehicles) but, for those of us trying to recreate British narrow gauge railways set in the early 60's, there are only a few appropriate model cars/vans (please feel free to "chip in" with any others), and then only if you know what to look for (and have deep pockets, it now seems).

As you may have seen on the Lazy Grange Bay line ( mike mike ) there was this die-cast Harry Potter themed Ford Anglia . . .

Then, a while ago, a "collectors" magazine offered this die-cast Morris Minor 1000 Traveller . . .

And, back in the day, one of the Hong Kong based toy manufacturers offered a plastic Ford Thames van in (I think) three guises (campervan/police van/minibus) . . .

Looking on ebay today, the cheapest Ford Anglia costs (a probably not unreasonable) £26.95, the cheapest Morris Traveller costs £51.14 and the cheapest (and only) Ford Thames Campervan costs £120 !!!

I was fortunate enough to get an example (or two) of each before the prices went totally mad. My other notable acquisition was a die-cast Leyland FG truck (albeit in Hong Kong guise) made by Best Choose . . .

. . . but the only 1/24 one of those on ebay at present is £168 (don't confuse it with a similar 1/76 version).

Keep saving up your pennies lads!

Best wishes

David

Hi , i collected these emhar kits few years ago, the emhar is a nice kit , have the tanker as well its half built the tanker kit comes with the sprue for the flat tray drop sides so could be converted easily, goes for $150AUD including delivery now on ebay. The transit van could be parked nose into a building so could be used in many layouts it is $80AUD including delivery .Its not as good a kit as the emhar. These would be a lot cheaper to you guys in other countries as our exchange rate is poor.

I have acquired another digger.

This Yi Gong one has 11 channels and a higher reach than the Hui Na one, which only digs and moves forwards/backwards.

It also has engine sounds.

It was for sale at the Whitewebbs exhibition last Saturday for only £25, having been donated to their sales stand.

My 20 month old grandson Fizzy is mad about diggers. It seems to be the word he says most often. So I might gift him the Hui Na when he's a little older....

Ah gimme, gimme, gimme the Transit - no good on my railroad, but I have driven them :clap:

I have the latest Transit. Nice to drive, but does it nag at you! There's warning bleeps for everything, including when you remove your hand from the steering wheel to change gear!
SWMBO's Hyundai i10 is the same - it's the b****y eurocrats who think they can make driving safer. Big mistake, as it removes the responsibility, and the concentration from the person who has their foot on the loud pedal :swear::swear::swear:

haha, yes tried to drive an Alfa I hired in italy last year LIKE AN ALFA ! and the blooming thing kept on telling me to "take a break", it thought i was falling asleep as I was driving like an italian and all over the white lines ! Its all new vehicles post 2022 mainly, yes we kept the EU regulation sync on this (we also need to blame the UK Crates too for just copy and paste EU reg to UK).

Fortunately, SWMBO's Ineos Grenadier doesn't have any such rubbish, and is a pleasure to drive. My Abarth being an 18 plate is similar.

However, they've even stretched their tentacles to motorbikes. Years ago, the foot pedal operated the rear brake and the right handlebar lever, the front brake. Now the EU has mandated that the foot pedal operates both brakes in a balanced proportion (forget what the percentages are) although the front brake can still additionally be controlled by the right handlebar lever :lipssealed::lipssealed::lipssealed:

Oh yeah, and new 2-strokes are banned :oops:

Mine was 'Spanified' into a fuel tanker for the state petrochemical company, 'Campsa'. I like Italeri kits. The company was broken up and privatised as a pre-condition for Spain's membership of the EU, I believe - useless fact of the day.21Apr2014003Small.JPG

I only have three road vehicles but they do get used on two layouts.

I have to accept this photo isn't very realistic due to the U25B being in a livery it never actually carried in real life.

Rosco's car was bought as is, the General Lee was a kit and Daisy's jeep was a badly damaged toy that I rebuilt and resprayed.
