g scale helix...anyone built one into their layouts?

Well I've decided that the Spiral-like bits on my proposed cunning layout plan are not really technically spirals, and definitely not helices (plural of Helix, good eh?).

So I'm gonna christen them "Graded Returns" :D

I tried to build one and failed. Inspired by a guy from whom I bought a couple of rack locos. He had a multiple spiral in his front garden which climbed from ground level to the guttering on his bungalow and ran across the entire front of the house. I would have liked to have bought the spiral itself but he was 200miles away and it would have needed a large van.

Certainly a Spiral.

Those LGB Harz 2-10-2's certainly have some grunt in the pulling department. Mine is pretty much the same and takes all I can throw at it on my Spiral. Yes I just realised that I have one! This vid shows my Spiral. I never built this bit of line to create one specifically, it was built to give a continuous run.

Nice video, Alan. That's alot of weight behind your loco. That series of cars is heavy.
