I am currently in Melbourne, Vic, and have just discovered a fantastic outdoor club layout adjacent to Glen Iris Station, can anybody tell me anything about it.

That is the AMRA Vic. Branch clubrooms. They are a multi-scale club, not just garden scale.

Contact details are on their website. I still can't post urls, just do a Google search for Australian Model Railway Association.

Look it up.
Just my luck they had an open day on the 24&25 March, I should have been in Vic then but put it off.
Now back in Canberra so it will have to be next year now.

I did not respond earlier as I was not totally sure of the railway that you spoke of was the AMRA layout, since verified. Several years ago, vandals ran amok in the layout, kicking and destroying much of the infrastructure, bridges, buildings, etc.

The club reported the damage to the Victorian police, but alas, the response was basically, so what, what can we do about it, it is only a toytrain set. Obviously, the club has repaired the damage.

All is not lost, 26thand 27th May in Bowral,NSW rails in the Garden has steam weekend, with tracks set up in Town hall, 32mm and 45mm NG and Mainline running ,Catered ,Clinics etc
it is about 99% live steam though.. for booking see the RITG website.

its only 1 and 1/2 hours from Canberra..

the AMRA group run their g scale every month, some sort of weird way to determine when they run, i think its the sunday after the second tuesday of every month, (if a chap from amra can clarify, it'd be most helpfull) im headed down next time to run my stainz and newquider stuff, and hopefully sign up as a member :)
 
Thanks for the info but I shall be away to Dubai on the 10th & hope to be at
Merstham on the 19th. Another one for next year.
