I appreciate the need for advertisement revenue, however when it starts to spoil the pleasure of the site, it leave me with two alternatives:
  1. Don't visit the site on that device, therefore cutting down my presence on the site, and reducing any potential advertisement revenue.
  2. Use an ad blocker, my enjoyment goes up, but reduces any potential advertisement revenue.
Don't forget about alternative 3. Pay to get the GSC ad free - it's only £17.45 per year. Money well spent to directly support the the site in my opinion. For those not in the UK they accept Paypal.

I’d completely agree with Phil. Also beware of ad blockers as quite a number have been allegedly found to deposit malware on your device and/or sell your info to nefarious websites. ......not that I like spreading malicious gossip....fiendish giggle.

Hm does not occur with my iPad Air 13.6.1 Software update latest version.
Well, I still have OS X El Capitan as the operating system on my MAC. I have been putting off installing Mojave, in the fear that stuff will be lost. Could it be that the older operating system is simply suffering from old age ?

I am also on El Capitan but have no problems. I just see the usual banner ad with the topics listed underneath.

And I thought Windows was all over the place:

Win 3.1
Win 95
Win 98
Millennium
Vista
Win 7
Win 8
Win 10

Obviously Windows only goes back to the early 90s, before that we were using DOS.

Yeah, and I am running Windows 10 on a 20 year old laptop....

Anyway, I did not see the response of the Browsers used on the 2 iPads, if they are both running same O/S version, then it must be browser or plugins.

We can probably solve this for Dan with a bit more information comparing his setup with VooDoo

I am running El Capitan on a late 2013 iMac with no problems in Firefox.
I occasionally view the forum on a 2013 MacBook Air running 10.15 Catalina with no problems in Firefox.
I have just tested it on my 5 year old iPad Air running 13.4 with no problems in Safari.

I usually run AdBlock but as requested by the owners I have it turned off for GScaleCentral and on all machines I see the small unobtrusive banner ad with all the topics listed underneath so no problems.

Paul

Sure seems it's something in Dan's setup.

Paul, thanks for the comeback, I'm learning more about the Mac. A question: does the iPad have an adjustable screen resolution at the system level, like a system zoom? With a responsive web site like this one, the site tries to "read" the client resolution and adjust what is displayed "appropriately".

I have not found any adjustment to screen resolution on the iPad. There is an option to adjust text size and bold but that will only work in Apps that support Dynamic Type. On the iMac there is the option to adjust the screen, mine is set to 2560 x 1440 and the only time I change that is when I am remotely accessing it if away from home on a machine with a smaller screen, like the iPad.

I have just found a setting for Safari and you can set the Page Zoom between 50 and 300%. That would make the ads huge but I don't think that's the problem as you can still scroll down to the topics.

Paul

So, I am not a Mac expert, but changing similar things on a PC often results in wrongly "sized" windows....

For example, if you go to my web site www . elmassian . com and change the size of the window, or play with the resolution, you will see things change, compact, layout changes, etc. At some point the pictures go full screen.

Greg

Just had to scroll back as I had forgotten who had the problem! OK Dan, can you get the problem showing up on your machine, take a screen shot and post it so we can see what it actually looks like for you.

Paul

Well, at 17.50 pounds or $23.00/yr it's almost a no-brainer. I will look into doing the deed.

Even at AU$33.03, [the exchange rate is a bit of a moveable feast...] the subscription is ‘worth its weight in bent bottle tops!’.
Recommend it unconditionally.
