French(-ish) freightcar out of 2 LGB Toytrain cars

Hi all

I would like to share a few pictures of a freelance closed French (or mid European) looking freightcar I've build some years ago for those who are interested. In short: I used 2 LGB ToyTrain cars for it, both shortened to about 2/3 of its original lengths and than placed together.

BTW: You can actually build also a longer version by only cutting of the platform topside of each car instead of 2/3 th, but it will be too long for a 4 wheeled car. It will than have to need bogies. Perhaps later one day

I used 2 LGB ToyTrain cars for it

And just to show that there is never just one way to do something, for my version(s) of this, I used FOUR donor wagons of the same type to produce TWO longer wagons, each with a single sliding door on each side . . .



. . . and then used the leftovers to produce a two-door version with extra-wide openings . . .



. . . that I thought just needed weathering, but this photo showed me I'll need to adjust the lettering first (it's not as bad as it looks on the photo, but it does need tweaking!).

Thanks David and David for sharing. All very beautiful cars! It shows indeed how these cars can be used to make unique models. The LGB ToyTrain car has a lot of potential for these kind of projects it seems.
3 cars out of 4.... hmmm... that is much more efficient than 1 out of 2.. ;-)

Being as a few others have waded in hope you do not mind me showing my efforts. These were done to get rid of the Odd Length between one end and the other on Toy Train Wagons. So one ended up a little shorter while to other one was a little bigger with 2 Balconies. 2 out of 2 no waste. In fact I even used up an old spare Bachmann Tram Chassis Side frame that was kicking about for the shorter one to give a Tramway look to the Van.



You can see that I used a Grey and Red donor. The longer one had to have a new Roof made as it came cheep amongst a selection of Kids cast off ToyTrain Wagons from FunandTrains that I have over the years used for varying projects. Note the well worn Bachmann Wheels on the longer Van and the Nylin Washer to get the Back to Back correct.

Very nice! I don't mind at all, just show and it will bring ideas and inspiration for even more fun projects.
I like the blue livery on these car and the tramway chassis of the first. Good idea!
2 out of 2 is even more efficient ideed!
