Fine linework.....

tramcar trev

all manner of mechanical apparatus...
Years ago I used to use a draughtmans quill pen i.e. the metal pen where the line width was adjusted by screwing a little knurled knob and suitable coloured enamel paint to produce fine linework....... Ok now the problem exists that I want to produce some fine gold linework and guess what? yes I threw the pens away long ago.... So my question is are these still available or what other techniquies are used to do this?

The Beugler lining tool is excellent (I have one) but I'd have thought perhaps a little cumbersome for our scale. However, I find it very useful to have something to hand to run it on, such as a piece of paper or card, before I actually attack the job. Make sure the wheel turns several revolutions so that it is properly loaded before using, and don't stand about, get on with it straight away, the paint is drying. It is also important that the correct grade/thickness of paint is used, too thin and it can blob, too thick and it skips. The On-Shot signwriters paint recommended is very good.

Have a look at garage sales for staedlar or conti brand compass sets or since you are in Canberra try Jamison markets, you might find something there

I did try a place in fyshwick reccomended to me...... Only wanted $185 for an old compass set with a couple of ruling pens in it. Now Im thinking waterslide decals my be the way to go.....
So the moral here is use the proper nomenclature and you will find viz: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ruling-Pen-/280656155229?pt=AU_Art_Supplies&hash=item415869125d

The beugler would not work for me......I want lines about .3mm......

Good result then Trev?

Yes great result, even cheaper if I buy them via the PRC $3.50 + $3.50 post LOL
