Enlightened population, seated?

Having at last painted my Bachmann coaches I need to think about putting them back together. I have two minds about replacing the lighting, if I do I will use LEDs, but not sure which the most appropriate ones are, or where to obtain said; fairly yellow would seem right I think. Whilst at it, I suppose the seats should be heated too with 'bums'; what size do folks find fit best? I can find some down to 1:30 which are probably too small, there doesn't seem a lot of room in the seats though. Suggestions?

I bought some 1:25 of ebay, good price and comparable size with Bachmann characters, however they will not fit (without surgery) in my Bachmann coach.

Cheers Jimmy, that is what I suspected; so perhaps the 1:30 might, I do wonder if it would notice that much once the coach is all shut up.

Have to say in Coaches I do not get too worried about figure sizes. Just do not put different sizes next to each other. If the legs are too long for the seats, trim them (ouch) will never be noticed till you take the top off again!

Is it a case of 'seated' figures come with leg-joints at right-angles? - Like sitting on a dining chair, which tend to be higher??
Coach seating is lower, so passengers are expected to stretch out. - Something these figures are not able to do..

NOTE: modern aircraft-style seating is more upright, though this is presumably to cram more passengers in, than any other reason??

I agree with all that above, I'm about to order some 1:30 and some 1:25 as well. I expect they will all have to become double amputees.

Now Maplins have gone I could do with a source for LED's (about 20-25#), and what colour, is yellow too yellow, or are there some soft whites about that are better?

LED's....quite often 'pound' stores have a string of 10 battery lights for, yes, you guessed it, £1. Or Wilko ( and other diy type stores ) will have longer solar strings suitable for cutting up. Mostly the LED's are are ice ( cold ) or warm white, but occasionally other useful colours, red/yellow. By the time you have mail ordered, and possibly paid postage...
I have seen ex solar ice white leds washed over with some weak yellow paint for an 'incandescent' effect

Unless you have already bought them....

Say's 'out of stock'??

I tried overpainting (using some glass paint) but the comination of translucent yellow and ice blue came out as a green tinged yellow when the leds were switched on!

If you have one nearby Robert Dyas sell LED's. I got some nice very bright ones there a few years back.

Rapid Electronic in Colchester?

I bought a bunch of supposedly 1:25 seated figures off ebay. They fit well in Newqida coaches, to fit in the Bachmann coaches I had to cut their feet off. Once everything's put back together you can't see it. My husband said it was disturbing to watch.

Ha ha!:rofl: As long as it's only feet I can cope with that, I was thinking mid thigh. 1:25 would seem to be about right for the scale but as we all know the 'rubber ruler' reigns supreme. What did you stick them in with? I was thinking a dab of silicon.

I use E6000 for gluing jobs like that, I have no idea if it's available on the other side of the pond.

Sad tale and warning -
I ordered the 20 piece set of blank face folks (left side in the photo below) to fill some seats on my Kalamazoo passenger car upgrade project using Hartland seats (below). The little folk were certainly cheap but, of the 20, I received 8 of 'Mr Friendly' with his left arm extended. I tried surgery with some success (upper left). I complained to the seller and he refunded half my money and apologized. More importantly, he has changed his eBay listing and 'Mr Friendly' has been excluded. No telling what comes in the group now, hopefully a more even mix. The rest of them do fit the Hartland seats reasonably well.

The wide-eyed 12 pc set (right) is better but larger so some carry on luggage will have to be moved to the overhead bins (or baggage car). Ya gets what ya pays for......

Yes, the figures on the right of your photo are much better than the ones on the left - I've had several sets of the right-hand ones (there is also a second set of different poses) and they are very acceptable for filling coaches, they are (I believe) machine-painted to a reasonable standard, good enough to use as-is or to be repainted and/or detailed as your needs, skills and time allow.

The very crude ones on the left are, in my opinion, not really worth getting in comparison.

I use leds for lighting in my rolling stock and buildings, Try Ben at this address, he was very helpful when I first started with led,s. Most will need a resistor again he can supply these.

For lighting strips ( Warm White) in coaches I purchased them off ebay for about £5 for 5 metres.

Electronic Components Supplier | Switch Electronics for leds,

For ebay search for this, LED Strip Light 2835 DC12v 5m 300LED Flexible High Brightness Non-Waterproof .

Ebay address that may help. LED Strip Light 2835 DC12v 5m 300LED Flexible High Brightness Non-Waterproof I | eBay

You could also try searching ebay for 3mm or 5mm leds, but beware of Chinese sites, LED essentials, Switch Electronics ebay site is probably the best ebay UK supplier and most with free postage. https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/led-essential?_trksid=p2053788.m1543.l2754

used 122.5 and 125 scale people from eBay at a cost of about $.50 each, worked out fine in LGB coaches but was only able to put 1 person per seat. I loaded all the seats and in hind sight I should have only put in half as many and left some empty seats. It is unbelievable how much weight it added to the coaches. As far as lighting I put a 2xAAA battery holder and switched it with a slide switch using 10mm LED's . Everything including the batteries is hidden in the clearstory roof. Have yet to have to replace the batteries. The LED' s were a little bright so I colored them with a yellow high lighter coach lightin light.JPGcoach lighting switch.JPGcoach lighting switch.JPG
