Engine Shed

I'm New, Please Be Gentle
I am looking for an engine shed but all I seem to be able to find are kits.I can build kits but my painting skills are pretty poor and its something that doesn't excite me. Does anyone know where I may be able to find a ready built and painted engine shed. Potentially I might be looking for other buildings as well if I can find a suitable supplier.

I'm not best placed to advise you on this, as I do not actually model outdoors, but my understanding is that the G Scale kit offerings from PIKO, Faller and the like are actually pre-coloured and make acceptable models without the need to paint anything. Of course it depends where your railway is set geographically. If your preference is for UK outline, I believe some of the resin kits available can be purchased assembled and painted. No doubt some of the other forum members will fill in the gaps for you.

www.modeltown.co.uk/ do some really nice resin cast models but you do have to paint them. They will supply a sheet of instructions on techniques, and it doesn't look that hard. I too am not keen on painting small bits but I'm tempted by these. They do a single road E/shed. Looks great.

I would second David's suggestion, if you're happy with building kits but don't want the hassle of painting then a Pola shed would be ideal - all the parts are pre-coloured (and in the case of the major wall components actually pre-painted in various weathered shades) and there is absolutely no painting required at all - just stick the kit together with a suitable plastic adhesive (some people also re-inforce the major joints inside with something like some silicone sealant, especially if the building is staying outdoors) and it is ready to use:

This is just an example (from German eBay) of a built-up kit to show you how they look - apart from the added lamp over the door, this one looks to have been built "straight out of the box".
Pola make a few different versions of loco sheds, the single-loco type above, a bigger two-stall shed and an expandable Roundhouse kit. Piko also have a couple of sheds in both Euro and US (Western) styles.

If you keep an eye on eBay you quite often see ready-built examples for sale second-hand, though normally they need collecting as they are rather bulky and difficult to post!
