Hi everyone. What I need is an led on the control box that is controlled from the relay box in the shed, it is as simple as that at the moment. One of the latched relays will need to be connected to a simple single channel transmitter that would send a signal to a receiver in my hand held control box and hold an led either on or off depending on the relays state, basically making the control box bi-directional with communication. Trying to find such a simple transmitter/receiver pair is proving quite hard, the nearest I can find is this http://www.conrad-uk.com/ce/en/product/190939?WT.mc_id=googlebase?insert=8V is it ok for my requirement? Does anyone know anywhere I can get a simple 1 channel tx/rx setup that basically just works to relay a logic I/O signal?

I had a look at them too, but I think they're designed for the transmitter to be 'touched', and the receiver latches to either state. I need mine to just relay a simple high or low signal. I thought about one of those cheap radio control car units where the forwards and backwards is push button operated (I could just wire the relay across the push button terminals) but the range is terrible.
 
Might I suggest taking a look at or contacting GregH at Sandstone and Termite I Aust for some help.
He has a fairly good electronics page on his site.

Very good idea, I'll have a look at one and see how it works. The only concern I have is that the transmitter may only send a pulse, even if the button is held 'on'. It needs to be able to stay transmitting when the button is depressed, and the doorbell receiver needs to be able to keep responding until the transmitter is released. If that makes sense :D
