For those with an interest in the goings on here at Eighton Bahn Towers.

After the nine day saga of fitting auto uncouplers to the Crock, little MOW was a different proposition only taking a few hours.

I have a long term aim to add sound to this loco, as it is the only one of the fleet without, after today there may not be the room inside.
Gordon,
Make a chip sized box to put it in the open bit of the loco, will add some detail and give you your sound. As for a speaker an equivalent small bass reflex should do the job nicely, have used them in my Steam Trams and so long as you get the correct wattage and ohm value all will be fine.

I get the idea of a box on the load deck, we will see.

Today has seen me dismantle something to fix something else, let me explain....

I have two four wheeled coaches, one i have added digital internal lights, passengers and BB wheel sets to, the other needs BB wheel sets, but the other items are in stock as it were.

So if I order some more and then swap the wheels to the other coach, i can set to and sort it out.

So...

20200501_144833.jpg

20200501_170455.jpg

...and if i then place one axle back under the first coach...

Cobbled together a packing case out of balsa wood, sort of it has a side/front and most of a top, so half a packing case. All part of a tidy up of the baggage coach.

But I have a purpose in mind for it...

20200502_145138.jpg

...it will hide this lot. Now before you ask, the bit on the left i have no idea what it does, it was made for me a while back, but it has something to do with the internal lights and the flashing tail light...

20200502_150027.jpg

...i have also taken the opportunity to provide the Guard with some liquid refreshment, non alcoholic, we carn't be having that on duty, and cake, we can have that, in fact it is compulsory. >:)

The baggage coach is now back in service, as is new Crock...

20200509_123834.jpg

20200509_123950.jpg

...even tried an end of the line gradient test haul...

20200509_124546 _2064 x 1548_.jpg

...check and double check the direction before setting off..

20200509_125101 _2064 x 1548_.jpg

...and it romped it, so the gradient problem appears sorted.

Concern has been expressed by the lack of a stopping device at the edge of that drop, well they carn't be in two places at once...

20200509_141640 (2064 x 1548).jpg

...any how the branch lines are now locked and scotched to prevent any accidental entry.

Trains are now confined to the main running lines...

20200509_141700.jpg

...i think i need to do some cleaning up...

Today has seen the arrival of a piece of rolling stock for the works train, via that internet auction site...

20200521_123538.jpg

...it's a respray, had no box and was not all there...

20200521_123549.jpg

...but i had something in the spares box that could fix that...

20200521_123613.jpg

20200521_124540.jpg

...it sorts of fits in...

20200521_134959.jpg

...have not decided to populate or add internal lights just yet, but probably will at some stage.

A minor tweak today, with a view to make the MPD a little bigger.

Replace the short straight by the 3 way point with a short curve, which moves the sidings away from the running lines, allowing for a re jig.

Looking at this topic, you would be forgiven for thinking nothing has happened since last May. In truth you would be right. o_O

I did try to get building materials delivered from the various "sheds" but to no avail, and as i have mentioned I think Motability would take a dim view if I used the car as a builders van.

So anyway may as well bring things up to date...

Christmas saw a delivery of two of those LGB 50th Anniversary box vans...

P1020826.JPG

Now as they are a set of five, well guess what I have gone and done...

P1020825.JPG

All part of an order for upgrade materials for my first loco the old crok...

So after a few days work, fitting a reed switch, volume control, auto uncouplers and pantograph drives, involving cutting, drilling, re wiring etc., the old crok is upgraded.

There has also been an upgrade to the upgrade,
I needed to go back in as it were to sort out an errant pantograph, so following a comment in todays coffee lounge, I have trimmed back the repositioned cab light fittings so the bulb holder sits snug in the fitting, no more or very little white bit showing

You certainly use every inch of space on your layout.

Surprised that you struggled to get materials delivery. I got my local Gibbs and Dandy to deliver some needed insulation to do my bedroom loo with no problems. This was in the full depths a couple of months ago, perhaps because they are a Buildres Merchant rather than BnQ or Wicks it worked. Though I did ask Wicks and they would have been happy to deliver as well but had to order on-line.

My problem(s) with the sheds at the time were:-

Certain items i wanted were out of stock at the time i wanted to do a bulk order, not always the same item, but a variation on what i wanted to order.

The minimum spend limit, couldn't get to it given the above, after all i don't need bulk up on bags of cement, if i can't get the blocks or slabs.
Just for it to sit there unused.

Lack of delivery slots, although they would e mail me saying they had some, they didn't have, or they were two months away.

Could place smaller orders but the delivery cost was prohibitive, i suppose to discourage small orders.

But hey ho, so what.

Yep, I think you'll find it might have calmed down a bit now, but as Jon says, I'd talk to a local merchant rather than the sheds.

Have you got an MKM near you, or Ridgeons?

I bought some deck boards from Ridgeons, never again, onboard warped so badly it broke the fixing screws
Yep, but it's difficult to go wrong with slabs, ballast and cement - and if they'll deliver .................

To be fair, timber's not their thing.

Yesterday say the fettling of the buildings lighting.

Starting with the easy one first, which was partially working.

Decided to rip out the existing ....

P1020827.JPG
...and replace with new...

P1020829.JPG

Mounted on a piece of thin aluminium which is flexed into the roof so the pips on the underside hold them.

P1020831.JPG

...the difficult (Station Building) which wasn't working at all turned out to be an easier fix., once if found the chewed and broken feeder wires...

P1020842.JPG

...still the jury is out on the internal light level on the MPD., building, but i can change them for something better or just add more.
