I think i'll give a mini tripod a miss.

Moving on, fleet addition and my first foray into the world of MFX protocols, or better get that deactivated quick, my lad.

Caused by the arrival of this...

IMG_20190325_093256.jpg

...MFX deactivated in favour of DCC and Analogue, loco "turned around" so I can access the "new" rear cab switch and put a driver in the empty front cab.
Also a bit odd as she has working pantographs, fitted the anti bridge clout pantograph restrictors...

IMG_20190326_072109.jpg

...now as I have a mix of locos with sound deactivation on either F6 or F8, decided to standardise on F8, by swapping F6 and F8 over where necessary, its all a bit 6's and 7's, sort of.

Soon sorted out all the fleet, just the old Crok, left to do.

Ended up not just a function swap, but a dismantling job as well, the rear cab control desk was loose, so had to take the bottom off, and when I up ended the loco discovered the traction tyre was split...

IMG_20190326_171354.jpg

IMG_20190326_164924.jpg

...there has got to be an easier way to replace a traction tyre on a Crok, and if there is having now done the job, I don't want to know. ;)

Tearing out what little hair I have left over this...

Trying to get to grips with my Brusio-ish spiral...

IMG_20190412_162701.jpg

...in an ideal world, would like to drop a foot over the distance between where the track crosses, but a rough calculation is that is only 32 feet, which to my mind is going to be too much for a loco and six coaches.
Could get away with 9 inch drop, add a couple of straights to make is oval-ish, or just abandon the concept.

If you use (say), galvanised cable tray, for the over-bridge, you gain an extra inch+ clearance compared with concrete slab..

Understand that Phil, but I have a plan for an arched viaduct section using curved ridge tiles, the wider ones when I get hold of some.

Gordie, do you have room to bring the starting curve further towards the photographer's feet - even after the turn out at high level - it's the small gains that ease the problem :nod:

Sort of, ish...would still need to maintain the "path" width on the outside, as in the first photo...

This is what I was planning, if it makes much sense...

...may have to adjust (demolish) the height clearance where the first dive under would be.

? Split the track bed, between the two upper level tracks, and drop the inside track bed earlier ? - Another small gain..

That was the first idea, start the drop with approx 1/2 inch over a 2ft straight, then the same every 2ft 4in. (section length) on the curve, still not sure if that would be too steep, allowing for drag hauling up hill.

1 in 32, roughly 3%. RhB has grades of 3.5%, according to Wikipedia, so you'd be prototypical.

So you can add another eight foot to the "loop" which will be more of an oval, by moving it four feet to the left/right or whatever.o_O

Or to put it another way, extend the pseudo double straight and demolish and reposition the curve...

...what could be simpler, apart from do it right in the first place. The old route is now no more, henges demolished, foundations dug out and smashed up for rubble and mostly backfilled.
Start of extended straight slab work laid, (twice and a bit) just having difficulties with the cement and concrete mixes going off.

Might be re routing the outer straight as well.

Gordon,
Please don't take this the wrong way.. I am just curious..

Is the intention to 'back-fill' or face the side eventually? - Am thinking you will not have trouble with the 'right of way' rotting in a few years, or with the expansion problems of recycled plastics..
Just thinking, and musing, on what might (eventually  ) get built here..:think:

Ok so here is my thinking...

IMG_20190411_142634.jpg

...that was the state of play prior to demolition to add more space for the loop.

Now the plan was to make the loop start at the shorter piece of track, and the longer section to turn the opposing way and through a series of curves drop height as well, around the gooseberry bushes.

Seriously thinking now making the pseudo double track (outer line) continue straight, then start to drop and enclose the goosegogs, and that pallet, which will be gone by the time I get that far with base laying.
and with a falling gradient to meet up with the bottom of the spiral.

With a tunnel to disguise the split at some point.

So after a work session yesterday we have...

IMG_20190419_164439.jpg

...sort of back to "where you were" position, but potentially having added 8 feet to the spiral, by moving it over 4 feet.

All downhill from here then? :giggle:

Assume you can 'ease' it over a little? - To get (the track) more central on the base?:nerd:
(but I'm just being finnicky, now..) ;)

Not exactly but remember this...

IMG_20181008_143240.jpg

...when I fettled the curve/straight section to bring straight into parallel alignment, well I can un-fettle it.o_O
