Double track tunnel clearance

Hi I am soon to be creating a double track tunnel through some steps and would like advice as to the best width and height to make the opening in order hat I don’t restrict the locomotives and rolling stock that I can run.
Thanks,
Mark

Assuming this is 45mm gauge I or IIm If you make it 250mm high that should be enough for any LGB loco including overhead catenary if you go that way. For width it depends on whether you have any bends in the tunnel or just before/after it.

Hi thanks it will be straight into and out of the tunnel so best width?

One of the highest items of stock that I have come across was an LGB Brake US Van, this exceeded the best hight that I could imagine. Not able to give dimensions now sadly. As for width someone probably needs to state the width of a Bachman 2-8-0 Spectum as probably the widest.

If possible check with real items of rolling stock, and don't forget r1 and r3 track spacings are different.

Height about 4 courses of bricks is more an ample I've found,

I built myself a double track tunnel, but forgot to allow clearance for the tunnel walls, so it's now a single track tunnel

I would concur with Korm.

Another factor to allow for is if you are planning to run narrow gauge with rollwagons or rollbocks or their equivalent carrying standard gauge wagons then your loading gauge would have to increase to allow for that. I fell into this trap when I built my station awning which cleared all my standard rolling stock but the first run pulling a rollwagen with a box car on top caused an unfortunate collision.
