DCC Starter Pack-Questions

As predicted in my first thread, I have a question !
Having won the eb.de auction and the kit arriving ( much of which appears unused ) I have rediscovered my dislike for reading 3 reference works at once whilst holding 2 pieces of hardware :( University was bad enough but now I am doing it for Pleasure ??

So far and with out things melting or even any smoke, I have changed language preference and reset the max Amps. I have also found 3 locos in the system, no real surprise for second hand.

My problem is deleting said locos from both the Central Station and the Navigator. The manual for the 1210Z tells me to delete the database but it is not clear if this only removes loco details. The manual for the navigator tells me to delete each loco in-turn. My question is, which should I do first, 1210Z or Navigator ?

Hopefully the answer in simple as the single cell has already gone beyond overloado_Oo_O

Thanks Alex

I would not worry about deleting them, they will give you a starting basis if the DCC Numbers work for you. To alter one that exists say No3 you need to press and hold M2 (once you have selected that Loco) note when you do this the bottom line in the Display will change and also during this change the functions of M1-M3 will do different things. Once you have mastered this the Navi gets to be quite intuative, unlike the Massoth Manual!

Though to be fair to Massoth translating German to English can be tricky at the best of times as German compared to English can appear to be a little back to front.

Today is a holiday in Germany, so no work for meeee

Having spent this morning " playing " with my Navigator, I find it is empty. Nothing in it :wondering:. Not at all sure what I looked at before.

When I press and hold M2 all that comes up is Analogue Loco. Pressing M1 or M2 do nothing. M3 brings up $ in red. I assume there are no Loco's in the system ?

I will now move on to loading my first Loco. If this works I will post a new Thread. If it dose not work, I will post Lots of questions :(

Just checking basics - it is connecting to your central station, isn't it?

Hi Alan, the Navigator must be connected as I have just finished programming/configuring my first Massoth Decoder. Whole system has been shut down and started again several times since and all works. I do have a question. How do I switch off a loco when no longer required ? Then switch it back on again ? Lifting it off the track works ! Putting it back I get engine start and run.

Alex

You dont switch off a loco on DCC. That is part of the fun, you can move, or do anything else, with any loco.
If you select a new loco on the Navi, you deselect the current one. There is a way of releasing command of a loco without calling up another - it is useful for when handing a train over to another operator/navigator - but I never seem to use it and cant remember how! Its in the book.

If you've selected a new loco to drive, and you didn't turn off the sound on the previously-selected one, then it will sit there happily hissing (or idling for a diesel) away to itself, with occasional random sounds like coal shovelling and such. As Alan says, that's one of the great things about sound on DCC. If you actually want to shut it down completely sound-wise, then one of the functions (from memory, often 5 or 6, though it varies from loco to loco) turns the sound completely off - so you need to activate/deactivate that while the loco is still selected, then change to another loco. If you just take a loco off the track while it is still making noises, then chances are when you put it back on next time you will find the sounds immediately start up again, because the decoder function is "latched" into the sound on position. If you find this is annoying you, make sure to shut the sound down on each loco before you put it away after each session.

Thanks for the replis. If its OK to Leave any or all locos sitting with Lights on and sound running then I am OK.
Pleased I did not miss something when configuring the decoder. It was my First Time :giggle::giggle:

Clearly a lot to get use to when compared to classic analogue.
