Classic Train & Trolley Sheds:

Both sheds are made of redwood with composite wood base buried foundations, and have 2 tracks each. The trolley shed has redwood flooring glued and nailed to composite base. The train shed has a composite wood floor. Sheds were designed by John Carmichael in 2012 for the Cholla Patch Garden Railroad in Tucson AZ.

As usual, my designs were inspired by old photographs of real structures and models. I wanted an attractive classic American wood Train Shed and Trolley Shed, so I combined the characteristics that I liked best. And I added a few ideas of my own - like the cupolas with brass locomotive weather vanes. Both sheds are similar in design and construction and have copper sheet shingles fastened to a wood roof with silicone and nailed with brass escutcheon pins (brads). On the inside, both sheds have a beautiful intricate truss beamed ceiling topped with a long clerestory (for venting heat & smoke).

The train shed walls and doors are plywood covered with redwood clapboard siding on the outside. The windows are made from leaded clear antique glass. The round windows beneath the front and rear gables have stained glass. The train shed clerestory features more leaded glass windows above the main roof. Long work benches line each wall inside. And there is a stove. Both sheds have electric lighting inside and out.

Feel free to copy, use or modify any of the images or video shorts you see here. Good luck with your own sheds. Thanks for watching! - John Carmichael
