Part 1 of 2
I decided that steam locomotives would need replenishment at Gernise End Station, on the Claptowte Railway, and therefore the location would require a water tower, water crane and coaling stage. Having looked at various manufacturers’ offerings, I decided on the water tower by Kippo models. It was not a difficult decision having three of their buildings already, the station building, toilet block and a lineside building converted into the goods office. As for as the water tower, I was impressed by the height, appearance, the excellent quality of the resin moulding and the very reasonable cost.
I purchased one tower for Gernise End, but due to a happy accident, I ended up with two kits. I decided to add the same basic loco servicing infrastructure to a pair of loco sidings at Phidell Yard, so the second water tower will be put to good use.
The picture below shows the part assembled model on the workbench. I have embellished the basic kit with the addition of a ladder, cut from a piece of ½” square wire mesh, in the same way that I made ladders for my basic signal kits. I also added a wire handle to the tank access hatch.

The pictures below shows the completed model sprayed with grey plastic primer in preparation for painting
