While searching for artificial cedar branches to make model trees, I came across another product with potential, on Ebay, a Conifer Cedar Mat 25x25cm, at £4.99, post free. This is a grid of plastic artificial cedar sprigs designed to be clipped together to make a full sized artificial hedge.

The mat is 250mm (10”) square, comprising 11 strips of 11 sprigs. Cutting the mat into 11 strips gives 2.250 metres (8 feet) of hedging, approx 4cm high. Once the location for the hedging has been determined i.e. straight of curved, it will be glued to 3mm plywood in the same manner as the trees. The plastic base/plywood can then be dressed with filler, painted and/or flocked to suit.

This product is completely weatherproof. If used outdoors, you could pin down the hedge strips with bent wire staples and cover the plastic base with soil or gravel.

Maybe if each length of hedge were two strips wide, i.e. you get five double width lengths and one single strip length, the effect might be of a more mature hedge.

He does look to have a look of relief on his face? :)

How would two-strips of the hedging, look? If staggered to 'halve the gaps between the 'trunks'?
