Can you change the wheelsets on LGB Feldbahn wagons?

Jasper

Hey, I'm only being creative here!

I'd like to put metal wheels on these wagons. But it looks as if the frame will break if I try to change the wheelsets. Does anyone have experience with this?

Jasper, they are very easy to replace the wheel sets. Ideally you wlll need a decent size flat head screwdriver to pry the axelbox out a little.

Certainly the LGB ones were as tough as old boots, mine before I sold them on had been left out in the garden for getting of for a decade with no issues. That LGB plastic certainly was fit for indoors and outdoors, I assume Maerklin is the same?

Thanks all, for your replies. It worked:

This morning I visited the industrial narrow gauge museum around here, and got inspiration on how to use these wagons or at least their frames:

It seems 7/8" scale is becoming an important side quest for me....

At least passengers won't complain about banging their heads when standing up................

The frames can be used for many things, as they seem to be quite common in the 1:1 real world. LGB puts them under several wagon types, and I glued Faller eTrain hoppers on them to make a different ore train.

When I have to work with hard plastic I put it in very hot water for a couple of minutes to make it more supple.
