BZB (BRADYEISCHE ZIGSPITZBAHN)

I've fitted those magnetic couplings to some of my rolling stock.

However, on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, I believe the loco is not physically coupled to the loco. I would assume this is the case for most rack railways (but not the MGB or ZB)....
The Snowdon railway's locos push the train up and acts as a brake on the way down as the line is nothing but incline.

Very cool project.....very nice patio too.

Just found this thread. Enjoyed reading it very much. Is this planned to be the extent of the line, or can we expect extensions? I like how it's a bit secretive, with the occasional viewing window.

Cheers Pal, Deffo the start of something extremely "mediocre" in the whole of the garden... This is a branch line/ tourist line to the "top of the pergolaspize" and the mainline MOB railway is destined for the other side of the garden, after I have played with a digger for a couple days ! I love them Kybota mini diggers. Just was never expecting to get the "ok" from her who must be obeyed to create this in the first place.

Im lucky to have a little dribble of a spring at the border of the garden, As we sit on "blue" clay I have dug out some natural new ponds.

Rocks were aquired last year from a local quarry on the Wales/Salop border.

Look forward to seeing what you get done, have fun with the toys.

Hi Duncan. Fascinated to see if and how your landscaping is progressing.
Trevor
Hi Trevor, Duncan railway has updated recently so not sure if you meant mine or his. Anyway you right I do need to add an update for mine.

As allway is correct, I have been keeping "her who must be obeyed" happy with giving her a modern english rose garden devoid of railways and is pretty for her to look at fom the window, that has mainly been achieved this summer dispite the strong "AL NINO" effect hot weather trying to kill everything we put in.

When it comes to planning, designing gardens its all in my Head, that also goes for track plans etc, im not a planner in life so my layout will evolve. I have an idea but this will be fluid.

I had a plan in my head 23 years ago but it just evolved, both track and planting.

Hi Dicky C.
Apologies for the name error. That addition is really nice. I think that you can get away with anything railway related now. I hope you're not setting a precedent for the rest of those who are still expanding. Well done.

The Wenlock Edge Landwasser

So my eye is always on the MOB but I do love how the RhB Landwasser Viaduct looks and how the trains come straight out of a tunnel in the rock onto a bridge across the gorge so I had to have this.... So this is my starting point for the whole railway. The Gorge was dug out earlier this spring with the mini digger but now i just started lining this with the rocks.

this is not going to look pretty until the concreate weathers and as we aon clay here the ground has settled

After several weeks of moving the odd boulder, working out the curve and how these will interact with the Conreat curved bridge I have inherited from my Dads old layout. This fairly difficult to create to be honest but hetting the first curve out of the tunnel was the hardest.

I dont like tunnels ! They will be there but short and avoided on my layout. I used a cut off a a large land drain i had used to divert the stream in my garden for the tunnel

It look for some reason I didnt take many pictures after this for a while, so the next photos are all taken today on the 1st october. There was quite a lot of movement over the summer so the bridge within a few months had gaps and cracks which had tobe repaired.

IMG_20261001_110240024_HDR.jpg

I am also using a MOT base with self compacting gravel or Hoggin surface for a path running across the Garden so this is what is going in next.

While doing this I have had to work out how the track will interact/cross with this, I decided on sleepers and the track will be slightly sunk and screwed down into this so that wheel barrows and other items will just walk over it. (in theory)

TRACK BED

My last railway sat on concreate blocks and gravel, but these soon cracked/moved and became uneven. Due to the heavy clay in my garden I am opting for more of floating option so will use MOT for the sub base and compacted then a gravel topping. To contain this im experimenting with some thin wood treated feather edge boards. We will see if this works. I have soaked the boards and then bent them to get the R3 curves required.

Im trying to incorporate as many R3 as possible as most of my stock need this.

All I can say is, 'Wow!'. That is a lot of hard work, but that is going to look so good. You definitely are a man with a plan. This thread is going yo be followed wit a lot of interest. That certainly puts my worrying about how I am going to sort out the gradients on my proposed extension into perspective. Excellent stuff.
