Too much of a good thing is nearly enough.

This weekend was the last of the four extension phases for my railway. Whilst it had a certain charm I never really liked the double track main line along one side of the garden as it lack character and was quite plain. It was the intention to put in some buildings and a station, but I decided for a more radical approach and split the line into two single tracks and put in some more bushes etc.
This was the view last week
Firstly the track alignment was tested, a trench then dug and filled with shingle as a base.
Finally some granite chipping were laid to hold the track firmly in place.
The next stage was to mark out the line of the lawn which was to survive the works....and so a trench was dug and the spoil used as embankments.
Two tons of topsoil and two tons of slate duly arrived the next morning, along with two friends to help with the countless wheelbarrow trips needed to move it into place!
