My own attempts have involved using wood - I built this one (9ft long) from pallet wood and some 3 x 2 ripped down. As I have a saw table, this doesn't present a problem. The bridge is based on one on the Oban - Ballachulish line (I don't kow if I've spelt that correctly.

Is that the bridge at Connel?

You're quite right Ade and it still carries road traffic. My bridge is much truncated in length (not to scale) and of course lacks the detailing of the prototype. I wanted to extend the line as well as crossing from one line to the other so, with the use of trestles, bridges etc, I built my extension (with a 1 in 30 grade!).

Regarding the UVPC vs Metal argument, you might find this of interest. Having said that, the next lot I am going to make out of aluminium angle to improve the aesthetics.

i think we should be aware that there is a centre reason for going on metal or pvc:

philosophic issues.

i´ll never build a bridge of plastic. Thats not in my brain.
Even though, there are many reasons to do it in pvc.
Not for me...

..and my trestles are made of wood. It doesnt affect me to make thoughts of "what will be in 10 years?"
You can use plastic-bars. I fear they will hold on for 100 years. Not for me.

As i told: not just a matter of objective arguments.....

Greetings
