Bowaters Models

Love the Pullman, pity they are not my thing. Have you thought about some German Metre Gauge Stock as kits? There are a few Wagons that have not been produced (by Continental G Manufactureres) at a sensible price and your techniques would appear to be just right for them.
There's also a big Fn3 hole this side of the pond - although part of the problem may well be that it's only a small hole :D:D:D
We do consider all requests for new ranges. They've both been added to our ideas pool for further consideration in time. Is there anything in particular you would be interested in?

Meanwhile...........

Bowaters Models has the opportunity to have a batch of our BME-001 'The Tank' Battery Electrics built Ready to Run. The cost of these will be £350 per engine painted Brunswick Green as per the Prototype. The engine will be available in either 32mm or 45mm gauge wheels (non-regaugeable) and Accucraft Chopper Couplings. The engine will come equipped with a 9v Battery Pack, Deltang Radio Control and a suitable Radio controller.

If you are interested in one, please e-mail us at info@bowatersmodels.co.uk to secure your interest. The initial batch will only be 5 models and is unlikely to be repeated at the present time.

I dont see any 7/8's..
Is it no longer being considered?

thanks,
Scot
Hi,

Our position on 7/8ths hasn’t changed and it is still in review. We hold the technical data required to do it and we certainly have the experience from our 16mm kits however we are still working out if it is something we wish to peruse or not. The interest in our proposed 7/8ths range hasn’t been encouraging hence a lack of movement on it. It may happen but equally at the moment it may not.

Jon

From a personal point of view, while acknowledging that US outline Fn3 is probably a bit of a narrow market, I feel that the D&RGW has been slightly overdone to the exclusion of other aspects.

When the US narrow gauge lines were being built, Carter Bros was a major player, and if I recall correctly, they built virtually everything for the entire railroad, apart from the locomotives, on site. There seems to me to be scope for some of their smaller coaches and shorter box cars. (The Accucraft coaches are fine models, but are a bit too long for some garden railways.) There probably is scope for some of the outside framed freight cars - box cars and ore cars that were used on the SP I believe - although now I want to find details, I can't locate them :banghead:

Just dug out one of my books - the Nevada Central the 'Sagebrush' line had box cars 24ft long, but it's difficult to get accurate dimensions on some of the stock.

One of the major comments we got at Llanfair was as lovely as our WHR coaches were, was they were just too big for most of the people we spoke too's lines. After some quick thinking, we've decided to offer 3 shorter coaches. Same design and outline but smaller. Assigned BMH-101 to BMH-103, all 3 are shortened versions of 2020, 2040 and 2090. To shorten them, we have taken 2 seating blocks from 2020 and 2040 with the service car area removed from 2090. These coaches are now 432mm long compared to the 600mm of the normal coaches. Ironically, there is technically a prototype for them. The Usui Pass Railway Culture Village in Japan has 3 WHR style coaches which are all shorter than the WHR fleet. Not surprising as they were built by the same people who built the original 6 WHR coaches.

Pricing is to be confirmed but we estimate it will be around the price of our normal FR coaches.

We're also pleased to reveal the new shorter WHR coach for the first time! Priced at just £90 a coach in MDF, these will be available at the National Garden Railway Show at Peterborough next year along with the remaining Welsh Highland Railway 13m Coaches. Glaslyn is due in a years time all being well.

We're currently looking at what will follow our Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad Freight Stock. Fortunately, we hold data for two different railroads and we've chosen the Bridgton and Saco River Railroad as our next American Range. We plan to release 4 Box Cars, 4 Flat Cars and 1 Caboose at first. These like our current Sandy River kits will be 16mm scale and come complete with bogies and couplings. We don't have a release date yet but we're aiming for 2020. Prices should be similar to our Sandy River Range.

We're also looking at 7/8ths Sandy River and Rangeley Lake Railroad which will be released around the same time. We're looking at upscaling our 28ft flat car and 28ft box car which will be available in both 32mm and 45mm gauge with Accucraft Chopper Couplings. We hope our models will be the perfect addition to the Accucraft Forney.

Now onto something we've been working on in secret, a while ago we used to offer direct sales on our website. This was removed as we were never happy with the customer experience as it was very chunky and very basic. After a period without direct sales, we have now invested in a brand new Webstore which you can order our entire range on! This is available to customers around the world with all appropriate postage calculated at the time of ordering and the new ability to show exactly what we have in stock with ease, this new webstore will allow Bowaters Models to do things we could have only dreamed of before. For example, we are now able to offer the entire range through our facebook page in addition to our website!

Please note, We are continuing to list our range on the Narrow Planet Webstore and have no plans of stopping to do so. Have a look for yourself!:- Bowaters Models Webstore

Professionally produced specially for us, we feel the new catalogue sums up what we are trying to achieve with Bowaters Models and also a foreshadowing of what we are going to be doing this year and beyond. More information will follow as appropriate but 2019 promises to be one of the best years for Bowaters Models in every sense of the word. Bowaters Models is looking at its Motive power range and working out what’s achievable and what isn’t. As a result, we’ve done some culling of the list to give us room to develop new products. Most of those culled are ones we haven’t announced but this one, we’ve decided to see what the interest in it is before we make a decision regarding it:-

Class_91-000_no._91-003.jpg

BME-006 South African Railways Class 91 in 16mm scale

To run on two powered bogies (we won’t say who’s just yet but they’re an excellent supplier and already supply us for other engines), the engine will feature a similar design to our RNAD diesel. In that, the engine would feature a laser cut superstructure in MDF with etches for the panels, doors and grills (if cost effective else we’ll do just the grills as etches). We would also include 3D prints for the more complex shapes on the model. We don’t have a price yet but as we know the RNAD will be in the region of £200 (we are buying our 3D printer which should help to bring this down dramatically), we expect this to be in the region of £300 to £400 without control gear. Again priced at current supplier pricing. With control gear, we can’t give an estimate until we’ve looked into it.

These are big engines. They scale out at 556mm long by 135mm wide by 177mm high. However, these are the perfect engines to run with the many Garratts and NG15s that are out there as a Thunderbird or just to run as a battery engine. We’re taking expressions of interest to see if this is viable or not. If you’re interested, leave a comment or drop us a message and we’ll see what we can do! We will also be planning to release a C type wagon which regularly ran with these however that decision will be made closer to the time of release. Thanks to the huge interest in the product on social media, we have booked it into the next design slot we have available with a view to having something to show at Exeter later this year.

That's probably a little bit less than building the brass version from Worsley Works. I've had a bit of a hankering after these locos because they are favourably proportioned for 15mm:1ft, and are the only US outline diesel that suits that scale (assuming that there's be a 45mm version as well). 135mm width is spot on: height is a bit more flexible, and R3s can handle a loco of that length.

Of course! The plan is it will be both 32mm and 45mm gauge from day one. Minimum radius should be 38 inches all being well but radius 3 should be absolute fine all being well.

On the way and available at Peterborough! The brand new Ashover Coach and Ffestiniog Railway Coach 16!

20pr4mp.jpg

Both are laser cut kits in 16mm scale. The Ashover coach is suitable for both 32mm and 45mm gauges while the Ffestiniog Coach is only suitable for 32mm gauge due to design limitations. Both are scale models and perfect additions to your garden railway. Priced at £95 in MDF for the Ashover Coach and £90 in MDF for the Ffestiniog Railway Coach. Plywood is a additional £15 per coach. We are also revealing a couple of operational changes.

For the first time ever, we’re delighted to announce we can offer collect at a show for the first time. With a hugely improved supply chain, we are confident we can get your orders ready to collect at any show we attend starting with Peterborough! Any orders placed 3 weeks before the show date, we will do our upmost to ensure you can collect them at the show. As such the last date for collection at Peterborough is the 16th March. This includes anything we’ve newly announced (and trust us, plenty more to come yet)! If you would like any of our newly announced products, drop us a message on Facebook or email us and we sort it out. Any orders placed after that date we will still try but can’t guarantee it.

We also have new estimated turnaround times and pricing regarding our models.

Turnaround times have dropped from 2-3 months for all our kits to 3-4 weeks for rolling stock and 4-6 weeks for motive power. This is due to a change of working arrangements within the business. This is effective 1st April 2019.

We are also releasing our new pricing. For the most part, our MDF prices have stayed the same with only a small number having a increase. Some even have had a decrease! The big change is to our Plywood pricing. Starting today, all kits will have a £15 Surcharge added for Plywood. This is now regardless of model which means the entire range has seen its Plywood price drop. These are effective 1st March. The price list can be found below:-

We hope this will be good news to you and we look forward to seeing you at Peterborough!
