Bowaters Models

In case it helps...

A very ubiquitous Eastern European NG loco, with a nice relatively simple body shape..... for ages I've been thinking about trying to scratchbuild a "close-enough" one on the chassis and bogies on an LGB V52, but a ready-done body kit would make it a whole lot easier! ;)

Folks who have been on here for a while may remember that James Hilton built one of the Blauturm CNC-machined-styrene kits (ye Gods, I've just googlied it and found it was back in 2012.... where do the years go?) - there is some video of it on his blog here:

The L45H is also known as the Lxd2, as far as I'm aware they are basically the same loco.

Jon.
Oh that helps. Like a lot. That goes on the list! Just don't expect it this year, I've got way too much to do between now and Peterborough as it is!!! o_Oo_Oo_O

Don't distract them Jon, I am secretly saving for a Class 91 - so far I have saved £10 :emo::emo::emo:
Excellent to know. I mean, I want two so.......... hence making a kit!

That has to be close to a LYD 2, shirley??

I would love one of these, a la WHHR.. Oh, and 'Emma' should be a dead simple one to do.:)

PS What, by the way, is your given-name, Mr Bowaters representative?
LYD2? It'll go on the thinking about it list. Emma, I mean, I know a guy who can go measure it or might know where I can get drawings so.......... That one is 'slightly' more possible than an LYD2 at the moment. :)

FORUMS FIRST LOOK

1j320.jpg

Yes, that's right. We're doing a forum first look reveal on this one. And it's a big one. We regularly describe Bodysgallen as the Queen of our range. Unsurprising as she's one of the biggest models and also a Pullman. Well, now its time for her replacement to make its appearance! And appropriately, its another Welsh Highland Railway Coach. This time? GLASLYN

4glmdt.jpg

The longest coach in the range (760mm long) and also the one we're most proud of! Using our tried and tested multimedia approach we use on complicated coaches, this coach is the perfect addition to your WHR set. Considering we also make its matching service coach 2010, the pair along with any two or more of our existing WHR range will be perfect for your garden railway. Minimum radius is 5ft although as with the rest of our range, it can go around tighter by moving the bogies towards the end of the coach. The coach will come complete with decals, couplings and bogies and with a little paint, glue and your time could be ready to go on your garden railway soon!

14uxtsj.jpg

Available in both Plywood and MDF, this coach is due to be released at Exeter and we can't wait to see it on other people's garden railways!

Disclaimer:- The model shown is the first prototype. We are aware there are issues with it and they are being addressed. However, if you do spot any, please let us know either on our facebook, on the forum or via our email. Our email is info@bowatersmodels.co.uk

If 2152 Gwyrfai won't be identical would it be worth including additional parts to enable construction of either coach?
Hi,

They’re different enough for that to be a no including different end profiles. But the way Glaslyn was designed means converting one to the other is a matter of a couple of hours compared to the 50 plus Glaslyn has taken so far. Once 2152 appears, I can make a educated guess and sort it out. But I’ve got another WHR coach to deal with before that along with a load of FR coaches.

So as you will now know, along with SLR Models, we have developed a working version of their new Bowaters Couplings that makes use of Accucraft components. We show these to you installed on our model of The Tank and retrofitted to a Accucraft Superior. We will also be fitting them to a Accucraft Leader and Excelsior in time. Massive thanks to Laurence Smith for his help in getting the data for these Couplings.

So what will we be using them for? Well for a start, for our Bowaters themed motive power kits, we will be having them as an optional extra starting with the Tank and Victor later this year. We will also be making them available with our Superb project when it’s released. And a couple of others once we announce them later this year......

Time to reveal what we teased on Saturday!!! The second of our two Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway releases! This time, Victor!

fjp5j8.jpg

Victor is a modified Hudson Hunslet which was brought by the then Bowaters Paper Railway. Not popular at first, it found its true appreciation when it was transferred with other Bowaters stock to what became the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway in 1969. Our kit is measured from the real engine in April this year and as such is in that operating condition. However, the kit has been designed so that could with relative ease modify it into any operating condition the real engine has been in over its life.

sdlgy0.jpg

It features a PDF Models chassis in either 32mm or 45mm Gauge and Accucraft (UK) Chopper Couplings. It also features the new SLR Models Coupling blocks. It’s priced at £160 complete, £135 without the coupling blocks and £95 with chassis and Couplings in MDF. Please add £15 per kit for Plywood. It’s available for preorder now and will be available from August 19th.

We want your ideas!!!! We’re currently working on our 2020 range so want to hear what you would like to see from us? Is there a particular engine you want? A particular railway's rolling stock you want? Any buildings or scenic items you’d like? This can be in any gauge from 2mm all the way upto 1:12 scale! Let us know and we’ll see what we can do! All we will say about 2020 so far, we’re finally filling a major gap in or range considering how important one range of our models is to us and looking at the Isle of Man Railways in 15mm scale but that can change depending on what you want! A long time ago, we announced we were going to do some Maine two-foot gauge coaches specifically Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad numbers 15, 19 and 20. We have also since then looked at 14, 21 and 22. If we proceed with these (and it's a big if at the moment), which ones would you prefer? Or if you'd like some from another railroad, let us know! There is a chance the first one may appear during the tail end of next year if we proceed but nothing is set in stone at this stage.

Time for some Motive Power news! First up - Emma! Based on the Hunslet Tunnelling engine of the same name on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway, this is a small 0-4-0 diesel which will be available at Exeter! This model is a first for us in that we are producing it in plastic! Made of 3mm acrylic, this engine also comes complete with a PDF Models chassis and Accucraft Chopper Couplings! The version shown the 32mm version which is scale dimension and the 45mm gauge version is wider to suit the width gauge. Priced at £135 in either gauge:

We’re also delighted to confirm that for our next two motive power kits, we will be doing a pair of Planets specifically Upnor Castle and Conway Castle from the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways! Upnor Castle will be modelled post it’s recent rebuild and Conway Castle as it was before its current rebuild! Both will be 32mm and 45mm gauge, come with a PDF Models chassis and Accuraft Chopper Couplings. They will also be scale models of the real things. More information of these two will follow as they progress though their development. Prototype images by Max Brayne.
