Bit of Fun- Just how fast is Thomas?

OK was feeling a bit childish yesterday and thought I'd see if I could get a high speed cab ride out of Thomas. As owners will know he is far to fast for realisim - or indeed little fingers on the controls. Here is the rig- camera on back, counter weight on front.

I build up the speed over 3 laps.

The track is unfinsihed so the roller coaster ride at the house end of the garden is a lash up untill our new extension replaces old- and a nice level patio carries twin tracks round.

whatlep- loved the high speed milkman driven pullman- I don't remember them but they look pretty elegant. were they actually fast?

I am replacing that camera soonish as it is pretty old now- i thought there was a fair chance of a disaster!
Lucky thomas wasn't pulling the first lap where it hit the fence you're right

Very interesting. I used to go to school on that line and could just about recognise the run through High Wycombe as far as Princes Risborough, before they cut away to a shot of the coffee cups.

Also loved the white coated driver, but was surprised that there was only one man on the footplate. In the early 1960s I might still have expected a "second man".

Were they fast?? What's the distance by rail to Birmingham - about 100-120 miles? Done in 1hr 55mins so an average of 60-ish and add a bit for the Leamington stop and signals check. Not bad for the date, I guess.
