Hey everyone. I had a big hualer setting on a shelf so I decided to paint it up . I added windows, sun shades , opened up the roof hatch , add coal to the bunker and a few other things. I think it looks better. Not so toy like. But it runs horrible. I think it will be setting on a siding lol. Wow! What a difference. That looks terrific. Some of those run fairly well, others not so much. I believe the better runners are the Anniversary editions. But yours looks great even if only on a siding.

Screenshot_20170829-001441.png One of my train buddy's said I should add marker lights. I think I did them correctly but it's just my make believe world anyways lol. I added a few valves and bits and bobs I had laying around. Screenshot_20170829-020421.png

Nicely done. Even if it runs badly, having it sitting in a siding gently "rusting" away will be an excellent scenic addition to your layout.

Yeah - those battery ones look miles better in black. I painted one of mine black - but it doesn't look half as good as yours!

Nice job, be such a shame to have her as a Siding Queen. Haveyou thought about one of the US supplied replacement quality chassis? Not sure if the small US company that made them still going, but you are in the right Country to find out.

This is what I did with my original one, one of the very first to be imported to the UK late 80's. Has a Regulator Hand Worked Controller that works with the original sound system. Scratch built Valve Gear and a replacement Plastic Body, more of a Box actually for this prototype a Tralee and Dingle 2-6-0t.

Thanks. I like the idea. Course now I feel bad for it lol and want to fix the chassis and make her a decent runner.

I use a 7.2 battery pack in this and 6 D cells in the other original, unmolested, one. A kind member on here sent me replacement remote as the other had dropped to bits!

Looks great. Was this one of the green ones? Your railway looks great. Those bridges are something else. I bought like 4 big hualer because they were cheap and I didn't know what I was doing. I could be the poster child for starting in garden railroad. Buying all the wrong stuff and buying to much of it..

Yes they were (well, one still is) the green ones. They are back-up if anything goes wrong with the track power supply in my trailer. I had three once upon a time. Made a Heisler out of one and sold the chassis to a forum member (used the motor blocks from two Playmobil locos).

If you like it and the price fits your pocket then go for it. Your make-over of the battery loco totally transforms it.

It's all a learning curve! I'm still learning (and making mistakes) - what I'd like and what I can afford are also two different things!

I would like to see the heisler if you have some pictures of it. My goal sometime is to do some kind of custom train from different parts.
