Will you be housing the batteries inside the locomotive? It shouldn't be very difficult. Simply locate the wires that go to the pick ups and reroute them to the battery. I run smaller LGB locos. So I use battery cars. There are usually three wires comming from the top of the motor block. In Stainz and other small locos, you only need two of these wires. Now in your F3s, the wiring may be somewhat more sophisticated. So someone that is familiar with that wiring harness will need to give some input here. The power gets to the loco via cables that simply plug into the lighting sockets on the loco. Once I have decided to convert a loco to battery power, I remove the skates and the carbon brushes that wipe the wheel backs.

good luck, it is pretty easy and well worth the effort. I am waiting for the Massoth DRC300 to be readily available. If it works as stated, then I may just go down the route of exclusive Battery Power.
