Baldwin railcoach driving trailer car

While the steam railcoach was completed several years ago, I had put the trailer car on hold as I did not know what direction to take, whether simply a trailer or a driving trailer car, much like a GWR autocoach. The Baldwin steam railcoach is based on an 1895 standard gauge design for the Denver & Rio Grande and follows similar lines to the English Sentinel steam railcar. It has a Stainz drive unit and due the narrow body width, is reduced to ten foot minimum diameter curves. As with the British version, increasing passenger demands forced the operator to attach a trailer coach. This trailer was usually a redundant car that was modified to run with the railcoach and most likely did not bear any resemblance to the driving car.

Similarly with my set, I decided to follow this route. This weekend, I extracted the digit and finally did some work to the driving trailer car. While it bears a somewhat similarity to the railcar, there are obvious dissimilarities as I was not prepared to construct the complicated compound curves of the railcoach driving end. I opted for a flat faced driving end as if the operator had simply modified an existing car to carry out the driving trailer car's duties.

There were no narrow gauge steam railcoaches on the D&RG, but obviously, the infamous rule 8 applies.

Looking good Tim, it will make a really nice set.:thumbup:

I like that VERY much!

I have some old bachmann-coaches left, either than a Bachmann Mogul, that does not fit the 1:20,3 stuff at all. So, one day, i paln to make such a railcar (steam), too.

Looks very fine, this! My plans have to come out like this!

Greetings
