Removing the body is quite exciting. You will probably find that you have to remove the pilot and the running boards, and certainly the cab - from memory, the cab sits down on top of the boiler.I really don't like the plastic look of the thing.
Any advice on removing the body and details so I can paint it?
I am even considering making it a camel-back, which would require some surgery, but I like that stuff. Any advice on that would also be appreciated.
How about a "shorty" Annie power bogie. There were supposed to be two to provide the bassis of an L&B style Mallet. This was the test build. There is no binding in the motions. Never quite finished and project floundered. Still got all the bits, loads of GRS castings and other bits that can be adapted. Just minus one Annie chassis to convert, it was sold off here. Depending on the version/iteration, there may be a few pipes and handrails that slot/unslot in various places.
The smokebox contains some switch wires that will still be attached to the chassis when you eventually get the two pieces apart.

Love that mining car! That's the kind of stuff I like to make: unique stuff! As you mentioned modifying stock and scenery how about these. A mining tub to tender and my old indoor slot car layout, with added cat !

That's beautiful! My conversion of a Bachman loco, this is an Irish Tralee and Dingle 2-6-0.View attachment 359131 Full valve gear scratch built and front bogie converted to only 1 axle. Still battery powered with hand built control in cab by a regulator and revercing fwd/off/reverce switch.
The picture that our man has posted of the underside indicates that the loco has a power bogie (from what I can see). How about a "shorty" Annie power bogie. Late '60's I used to race 1:24 slot cars. I ran an anglewinder brass chassis with a "floppy" pans. Mostly US running gear was used, like Lancer bodies, Mura motors and Cox gears, etc'. Track I ran on was an AMF built 8 lane 155' "Blue King". The cars hit a real speed of 70 mph + on the straightaway that led into a 210° turn, with a 45° angled banking. Friday night was race night. This was in an area of north East London, Tottenham. It was just round the corner from the famous Spurs soccer team's home ground at White Heart Lane who also now host NFL games now annually. Home to the Jacksonville Jaguars when they play there. Duuuuvall ! This is what I think we call "thread drift"Love that mining car! That's the kind of stuff I like to make: unique stuff!
Cool slot car layout. I remember a hobby shop in Mimai, FL. I think it was Crown Hobbies on Coral Way, right near the train tracks... it sold all sorts of hobby stuff from models to RC, and ha an area with a slot car tracks. People would go and race their slot cars there.
And the cat is quite lovely! It's always funny how they settle into things.
I think I will keep the 4 wheels up front to prevent any issues, though reducing to two would change the look for the better I think. The picture that our man has posted of the underside indicates that the loco has a power bogie (from what I can see).
I found mine a bit unreliable, but I had fiddled with the bogie to shorten it - that way the Tweetsie origins are a little bit hidden
It's a feature of the original ET&WNC 10-wheeler that the front bogie axles are fore and aft of the cylinders; that doesn't present a problem, it's just that all the derivatives are so obviously Tweetsie rip-offs. I shortened the bogie to move the rear axle forward, and the loco's origins are less obvious![]()
