Bachmann Annie conversion to a LSWR 0-8-0

Just before Lockdown I ordered another Annie chassis and Emily tender from Bachmann Parts Dept USA
I have to admit I was a tad dubious whether my order would arrive given the Store was closed due to the pandemic a few days later
Anyway to my surprise they did turn up quite swiftly so my first lockdown project was possible
This was to build a Drummond 0-8-0 that was designed around 1906/7 but never built
All that exists is a side elevation
In someways this is helpful given the engine was in his ‘Paddlebox’ style and the limited info means that possibilities of criticism of its detail is as a result minimal
The approach I ve taken is similar to my other recent builds
First task was to strip the chassis and alter it to create an 0-8-0 wheel arrangement
New coupling rods were made and the under frame extended to accommodate a front axle
This was installed and then the valve gear cut about to remove many of the supports and set the cylinders at an angle
The former lead drivers (now second set) had their flanges removed so the loco could handle 4’ radius curves
I decided I’d build the running plate in two parts
The front section ahead of the valve gear support fixed to the chassis the rear as part of the body superstructure
The loco body was built mainly from plasticard with the boiler from an old piece of plastic rainwater pipe
The chimney top and dome were parts obtained from Garden Railway Specialists
The tender was then tackled
The body or tank altered and widened, the coal rails re shaped, and the tender re wheeled with Thomas range wagon wheels to reduce its ride height
The whole lot was then primed with £ shop spray primer and finished with Precision Paints LSWR green picked out in purple/brown
Lining and lettering was as per most of my models from Fox transfers
So that’s my first Lockdown loco!47A3CF84-D18E-4A51-93EF-92E83E44ECBC.jpegD8C8E4B6-B6F8-431A-B690-83B7F5A672AB.jpeg679A3A0E-9803-4841-93D3-C1F913DEBEB4.jpeg03AF48C8-EBFA-46C5-A366-031FAF752C5F.jpeg763BD7EE-59B5-40F3-922B-560882739664.jpeg
