I bought a used loco last year. The bonus was that it had a sound system already fitted. It is not Phoenix which I am familiar with. If it cheaper than Phoenix, it would be acceptable. It triggers a bell and horn plus a `trainyard arrival announcement` sounds as well if triggered. It carries a label stating its intention for fitting to an SD-45 but no other markings. Maybe the previous owner of this Southern Pacific SD45 is reading this.

There was a similar thread a little while ago, about identifying a sound card that was probably an old PH hobbies board? Looks similar.

Thanks fellers, I do not come on here very often and missed the earlier thread. PH seems to be the origin. It is a very good unit, shame they are not made anymore.
Mind you ,wifey does get a little wound up as the driver keeps reminding her he is `going to Cheyenne Yard` as he passes by her garden chair!!

PH did have some serious QC issues before they dissapeared:mad: However, I have one in an Aristo RS-3 (1st run) and have had it for nigh on 10 years and it still works. I believe I am one of the lucky one's................

OK Richie, this is how my triggers are wired. The `voice` is in the top inlets of the white junction box to the bottom left in the picture.

And here is where the trigger is placed in the centre of the fuel tank.

I hopes this helps.

Having fitted hundreds of PH sound units (not an exaggeration as I fitted these for a train shop) The most problems were caused by not charging the battery pack correctly! if you do it as per the instructions most systems worked perfectly for years. Overcharging at high voltage is really what done most of them in as the diodes would heat up and burn out the board.

Cheers for that Ian you will see on my pic of the sound board that the two pins have no sockets on them will have ago next time . By the way does yours come with a rechargeable P9 battery as i got a new battery for mine charged it up and it's flat after a few days and the battery doesn't seem to want to charge now do you think the sound board has drained the battery and damaged the cells ?? Would the volume switch also be the on / off switch as it's just left on .

Richie, i can`t help much as I do not know much about these units. It looks like Paul certainly can help. It did have a rechargeable battery fitted. it may need replacing because the sound does not run on very long after a good run. My Phoenix will do that even after being stored for a while.
