I have been collecting LGB for over 30 years. My biggest layout was 14' X 40' indoors. Then I moved to Hawaii and everything was in their boxes only bringing some of it out for Christmas. I did at one time put it up around the pool. Now my next adventure was to make my dream come true so I built a train shelf around my small office. I finally was able to use a trestle, that I purchased 30 years ago, for what it was designed for. I removed all the rolls of wrapping paper out of it and put it into my design. Then I realized I wanted to run two trains on the shelf at the same time, well that just really doesn't work on DC. So now I'm bringing my trains into the 21st century and converting them to DCC and leds. My son wants me to cut a hole in the wall now so I can run it around the front room and kitchen. But I realize that would probably end my life and marriage LOL. So back to the drawing board. Maybe just maybe I can put my trains outside like they are designed for. The designing stage has started up again in my head. How can I use all my track, switches, signals, etc. outside? I think I will start with some measurements this weekend and the outside project will be started.
Thank you G Scale Central
Randy

Hi Randy, welcome to the Forum!

Plenty of good advice, and a little gentle ribbing, as we get to know you..

The humour (and puns) can be pretty dire, but we all seem to get on?

We like pictures, so once you get started, post away.

I have a friend in Honolulu with outdoor G trains. Quite difficult, as his garden is 1 inch of soil ( dirt in us speak ) and then miles of volcanic rock!

You could have the best of both worlds a shelf layout in the garden then as age encroaches the need to crawl around and bend down is alleviated.
That's what I did I future proofed mine hoped for the best planned for the worst.
Very similar climates.

Welcome Randy.

There's a guy (Eric) in Kailua with a small garden railroad who I communicate with. He's on Largescalecentral.com.
