I should know this or where to find info on it. The ads seem to be getting larger and more frequent. Are we able to eliminate them ?

Hi Dan - I pay a small fee so ads don't appear. If you click on your name on the above blue toolbar, you will open up a list of things so then scroll down to account upgrades (I think!).

Thanks Mick. DONE !

One of the ads I keep getting is a way of reducing your electricity bill. This seems to involve a dodgy bodge up with a transformer and sodered connections. Don't even think about trying it

Yup, I've seen the same one or something similar.
Can you say "scam", children? :wondering:

I did click on one the other day where there was an option to say that it was “inappropriate”. Wish I could remember how I found that bit of the add to click!

Click on the X in the top right.

The actual "product" is rather better engineered than what you see (I followed things through to a website once() but user reviews suggest that it doesn't work.

Ads now seem to have started appearing in the body of posts, after the text and before the reply space, which is very annoying.

They do seem to be a bit more prominent since the New Year - dunno why :mm::mm:

That's what prompted me to ask the question.

I view the forum on safari on my iPad. I pay the upgrade to get rid of ads and to contribute to forum running costs. I see no ads at all without the need to to use various ad blockers other than those that Apple and Duck Duck Go put on.

I pay also, and I still get ads, that is why I use uBlock Origin and Ghostery .... yes I pay for no ads and I still get some, but I don't complain, I get even!

This is not the only site I pay for "ad free" and it's not really true. Part of life. I need the blockers for other sites so no big deal.

Honestly, I am sorry you guys have Safari and Apple and thus limited capability, can't help you there.

There are 10 times as many computers running a version of windows as compared to Apple computers running MAC OS.

I have a hard time finding the ratio of Windows programs vs Mac programs but I suspect it is even wider.

So, sorry guys, but I would suggest going to FireFox on your Macs and then getting some good popup and malware blockers.

Ghostery is available for Safari, and you must be able to find a popup blocker too... It can be done.

Greg

Sorry Greg, no idea what you mean by limited capabilities of Safari or Apple.
For my uses - I’ve always found The Apple OS more flexible. I’m a photographer but have also run travel companies and tour operators. Have never been restricted. Indeed my creatives have always demanded the Apple OS. We have a Windows PC in the house, but it suffers many more issues. Same issue in the last company I ran. The IT department was there to support the PCs, but admitted that they didn’t need to support the Macs, as they needed much less attention. I know there is always a PC v Mac discussion and there are uses for both. Each to his own as is said.

I genuinely have no ads or pop ups on my iPad or indeed on my iMac and I don‘t use ad blockers.

I'm not going to engage, the 10 to 1 ratio of Windows to Mac is indisputable. I've heard all the rationalizations and it's like Democrat vs Republican, each side believes it is right and the other wrong.

No side will ever convince the other.

Anyway I get ads (very few, and if I remember right they were promoting this site) like Dan does if I don't put some additional blockers on.

So if you are ok, all we need to do is help Dan.

Greg

I use an Apple and Safari too. I don't get any ads on the GSC site since paying to be ad free. Ads only showed up again on Jan. 1. They disappeared again within an hour of making my payment. To be honest, I was surprised the ads stopped so quickly.

I'm not going to engage,
By the way, you fired the first shot here!

T'is the nature of the beast (human) to complain about their lot..
If it is sunny, it is too hot, and the plants will wilt..
If it rains, it damages the crop..
If it is cold, things don't grow..

If by accident, or design, you work with 'creatives', you are probably a Mac person..
If you work more in Admin, and an ordinary office environment, then most-likely Windows..

Petrol / diesel..

Gas / electric..

Meat / veg..

T'is the diversity of life, which keeps it interesting.
AND,
It would be boring, if we had nothing to rib each other about! ;)

A little funny but also a little sad that there are still people around who think of it as a war, a battle or some sort of conflict. For many, many years now, I and virtually everyone else I know who use Apples or Windows had moved on from 'them and us' to the logical understanding that there are two main platforms in computers (others are available) and that they both have their strengths and weaknesses. As PhilP said above "T'is the diversity of life, which keeps it interesting." There are though still some who look for conflict.
