Acristcraft U Boat Smoke Unit

Hello
Does any one know of a source for the smoke unit tank part from an Aristocraft U boat please? The fan works but the tank which contains the heater does not function.

Bill

Forgive my ignorance Bill, but what's an Aristocraft U boat? I'm assuming it's not a submarine. I've got some smoke unit bits in the garage which might fit the bill (pun not intended). I will try and look them out later this afternoon and post pics.

Right. Assume it's because of the passing resemblance to the conning tower bit. I don't see any torpedo tubes or periscope though (or do I need to go to specsavers?) On second thoughts what's that sticking out of the roof just to the rear of the side window?

Is this the baby Bill? It came out of an aristo Alco F1B unit I think. I've just put a test meter across the two terminals on the side and there's continuity so a fair chance it works. Message me your address if you want it.

Hi Bill. I've got your address. Can you undo the two screws and take the lid off? The unit in my photo would appear to be much too long to use as a direct replacement. I think I've got another one somewhere but not sure if it's different. The element in the unit I photographed is actually removeable with care as it's only held in by the contact wires which are fed through holes in a couple of mounting pins and just bent over at the ends. If that's all that's required I can take it out and post in a small box. As it stands the moulded reservoir would have to go small parcel at Royal Mail's highway robbery rate.

Saw the thread title, and immediately thought.....
"Bridge to engine room.... Make smoke!"
:D:D
The element has probably burnt-out.. Spares may well be available, or a Google search will find a value for a wire-wound resistor to replace it.

That sounds like a plan. If you would kindly post it to me, I will pay you the postage. Thanks
Bill

Hi Bill. I've found the other unit and it's identical to the one I photographed earlier, so have carefully removed the element and it's in the post. Don't worry about the postage. If that doesn't cure it, it could possibly be the PCB on the base of the fan motor. I've got one of those somewhere too. Best of luck.
Mike.
Btw part number for your smoke unit is 29308.

A bit of a drift to the left, not a U boat, but your picture of the Southern Pacific loco reminded me of this SD40

And no, not photoshopped - as actually outshopped very briefly in 1981

Shirley a 'drift to the left' (as in west)...... Would make it a WD40!

Hat, coat, door!

The resistor arrived this lunchtime. Thank you for your kindness and I hope I can repay it someday.
