A Rakes Progress

Close off end of saddles with 2mm plywood

using pipe sander to finish off rough shaping
glue & pin

Make another smaller saddle

as this one is narrower

the middle needs packing so as to stop distortion when fixing

Pity about the MDF splitting , problem was running out of dressmaking pins & I used some small nails instead & did not pilot hole them :clown:

Drill hole in top centre of pipe

sounds easy dont it

but dont do it by eye

I put the tank on a glass plate checked is was level across, the glass that is.

placed the saddle on top until that was level

and carefully drilled hole making sure saddle did not move

one hole!!

Thanks Korm

Also available in grey/gray

I think the disscussion here is about the lack of pigment coverage of grey over the yellow

going to need another coat

probably do some filling first

Right after doing all the sided vehicles,

I wanted a change

so I revisited tankerland

Take a 16 inch length of unused sewer pipe

now why is that sort of pipe so hard to cut square, even on a mitre saw table

I suppose plumbers have a special pipe cutter?
Mainly because they hide it under fittngs.

Excellent series, I don't log on for a few days and look what happens.

I suspect you could be right

I found that I could line up the end caps square because there was a lip of about a quater of an inch, to allow a bit of room to maneuver

Inspection/ maintenance hatch added

cut the bottom 8mm off a suitable pill pot, mounted it upside down, 2 screws into ply, with styrene glue on bottom edge

cut circle of 40 thou styrene, dimple with blunt nail from reverse, stick to pill pot base, ensuring a central overhang

Right,

so back to the shop

as I design as I go

I now realised that the in & out pipes & vents etc are the vulnerable points on a tanker, so decided a bottom support/ crash/ underrun

protector bar should be incorporated

seen with the fill / discharge pipe fitted

Pipes need caps,

I would have prefered one at least to be removable, ie, with screw thread & knurled edge for grip

did not have anything suitable

so settled for fixed, in the shape of an old used Revel tube of glue cap,

cut down to about 5mm, and pipe end smoothed till fitted

at that length the cone shape is not noticable, but the fluting on sides adds detail

Vent pipe was made up from smaller diam pipe, end caps from brass paper 'rivets'

small bit of larger pipe, for access through tank & screw to fit

Under view of tank,

both pipes run to both sides for easy loading / unloading

the protocol for this loading facility is that all exhaust fumes ( small pipe) on filling are rerouted back to a holding tank, 'dryed' and then back into stock tank that new load is coming from

As the cargo is only of one type, Green, Biodiesel, no problems with gas reactions. ( Thats the theory anyway!! )

Get a skilled worker

in this case Elliot,

why Elliot,

well there are so many employees on site I have a job remembering names, & he is wearing a TShirt, so T.Shirt Elliot or TS Elliot

get him to make a digi control box with mounting plate, well 2 actually, one for each side

shape corners of box to make it look more like a moulding, instead of the lump of wood it actually is!
