This is the effect I am going for round the canal basin slates with timber piling; as it looks as if it will work I will collect another 25 slates tomorrow.

Amazing great stuff!!! One little comment - considering you have a lot or room I think you have used some suprisingly tight turnouts/points and curves here and there - reckon in the future you would be glad if it was all sweeping - it looks like you are investing heavily here! Please keep it coming it's fantastic.

The main line is R2 & R3 with R3 point work, the sidings are admitedly R1 but then alot of narowguage had small radious point work. I dont intend running any long USA stock, so don't bring any if you visit.....

Fair point.... all down to preference... I don't have any big american stuff- the one in my picture is actually an lgb narrow gauge (all be it US narrow) and does r1 very well.... thanks for the invite - with a railway like that you may regret that.... :D

I have got the extra slates that I need, so I am about to tile cement them on to the concrete sides of the canal basin. The wood (piling) I am putting around to cover the joints I am going to try using No Nail to fix it in position there is supposedly an exterior grade, it will be great if it works saving drilling and possible leaks.

If the 'no nails' fails try bathroom silicon - sticks anything - even underwater.

Put a few more piles in the joints today before the rain.
Imagine it filled with water to about 2? bellow the top. I hope the effect will be acceptable.

After the severe rain (for round here) of the past few days I have to report that the ?No Nail? didn?t survive the test. All the wooden piles are floating around in the dock.
After discussing with my son he said that Screwfix are selling a product called ?Stick like Sh*t? that is supposed to work even under water, so he is getting me a couple of tubes to experiment with, so watch this space. I would take a picture if it stops raining.

I have had various family health problems during the start of the year, but hopefully these are resolving themselves now. So back to the posting after such a long delay.
I have stuck the wooden piling back on with the new adhesive, but it hasn?t been tested, due to the lack of rain this year having only about 15% of what we normally do down here

The landslip is going to be dealt with by constructing an avalanche shed.

Great to see some more progress on the line and I agree - the avalanche shelter is a nice touch! What colour has it been painted? The harbour area is very impressive too!

I really love that low level shot in post 32, looks so evocative of old railway postcards

Thing with a garden railway,
when other things get in the way, like health issues, work, etc
the railway is still there & the natural 'weathering' & plants developing is still going ahead with no imput from us!!

A friend of mine suggested that a diluted PVA and neat cement mix is very durable and would give me a rough concrete rendered look so will be trying that. The plywood by the way has been coated with epoxy to preserve the wood.

The freshly cement coated avalanche shed, it will be serving the appropriate job as I have suffered from landslides at this section each winter, but may make the hill taller now as I have the chance and it may look more in proportion as well.
