I know they are toys, but with the assistance of parts from Smallbrook Studios and a bit of paint, these Percys can make a passable Saddle tank locomotive.
After a bit of effort I now have two of them running and am very pleased with them. You get what you pay for, and at under £100 completed (the engines were second hand) I think they are a real bargain

A short video of them running today too!

Great. Nice bit of work. I well remember when this range started that people said what great bashing fodder - but too many still run as toys.

Precisely why I keep a full Thomas train in my stock. When it is kids wanting to play trains, I certainly don't let my good stuff out.

I think the Thomas range is a great opportunity for chopping and changing etc
Percy can be altered to represent a whole range of British style 0-4-0T s
Here is my stab at a Southern B4 (Percy before B4 after)
It retains the running plate and chassis
Most of the superstructure is of plasticard and various bits including an aluminium cigar tube for the dome
The chimney came from a Bachmann Annie

Could just be the learning curve of the new software - but it does seem odd.
