Well chaps, seeing as how it seems that some of us might be snowed in for a day or two, how about having a thread of our favourite videos to while away the afternoons - preferably trains, keep it clean Steve and Fred? :rolf::rolf::rolf::rolf:

I'll kick off with this one recently posted by the National Railway Museum. One of my favourite exhibits has always been their signalman training layout. For those that haven't seen it, it's mounted on the most amazing custom built tables - proper Chippendale jobs and made long before most people had even heard of a model railway. :admire:

A really fascinating and enlightening vid Mel. I feel that I have a bit of insight as to how the dark arts of signalling operate. They certainly knew how to build things that lasted back in the day.

A presenter, who I never tired of, was good old John Betjeman. And one which is a little topical due to the forthcoming/recent running of a steam loco through the underground is his 'Metroland'

Now that wasn't at the Museum that last time I was there, so I'd never seen it. I am impressed. I also understand about how the apprentices built the thing as that was also something that I was involved in whilst in the training dept. although unfortunately for motor vehicles not for railway stuff. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
 
A number of the lad's I work with in Network Rail control Manchester were trained on that layout and I had the honour of maintaining the dedicated DC power supply system which fed it, This was when it was located in it's original home in Victoria station buildings Manchester.

Also got a few opportunities to have a quick "play" when under maintenance;)

I see Allan Lewis has a "starring" role. Is he still at Piccadilly or has he finally retired?
